Notification of UFE

An assortment of background information:
I applied back in October. I’ve never visited campus. I’m NMSF. I’m a minority. I go to a public school in Louisiana that sends a few kids to Bama every year. My academics aren’t that spectacular (32 ACT and 2130 SAT) but I do a lot of community service (about 2500 hours throughout high school) and have leadership positions. I have a friend currently in the fellows program.

It’s odd because I talked to Wellon about 10 days ago, and she said that they weren’t going to do phone interviews. I guess they changed their mind.

This must be just to further “fine tune” the number down to the 60 kids that they will invite to the campus next month for the full interview.

Your academics are fine.

What does your friend say about the phone interview? Maybe he/she can give insight as to what they are determining by the phone interview.

son got his email today too…semifinalist granted phone interview! congrats to you junipermellow.

If we didn’t get a semifinalist email I assume that we don’t have a chance. My essays kinda sucked, so I’m not too surprised. I did a lot better for CBHP, hopefully I get that.

wonder if all the emails went out today?

Congrats juniper and son of parent56!

dumb question-did it go to your UA email or regular email?

Son got his email today, too! His interview is Thursday night. Wow, what an honor!

Congrats to all of you!

well, I checked both my emails and didn’t get one

oh well…it was a long shot anyways

Don’t give up hope! You may hear something as late as Tuesday! Will keep our fingers crossed for you!

^^thanks…i appreciate it!!!

I was notified about my semifinalist status about noon today through my regular email, but I am a bit surprised that you have not heard anything. It would seem nice if they informed everyone whether or not he will be considered further.

Anyways, does anyone know, what is the point of a 7-10 minute phone interview? It seems like such a short period of time, and from what I have read, although I do not know if this is accurate, there are ~100 phone interviews and ~60 become finalists - any confirmation/denunciation of this would be welcome.

I am visiting campus tomorrow and I thought I would drop by and see the CBH people and the UFE people just to meet them and say hi. Any tips/heads-ups from people familiar with these programs - slightly thinking about mom2 here - would be greatly appreciated!

it would seem to me that the point of the phone interview is to gather a bit more info to further decide whether the person should get invited to campus. IF they’re truly doing 100 phone interviews, then it would make sense that they can’t be THAT long. LOL

I would think that they’re going to use the phone interview to get a sense of how poised you are.

Even the campus interviews aren’t very long (at least for CBH). They’re about 15 minutes long - if I remember correctly. Afterall, there’s a lot of kids to interview.

BTW…this year, the CBH interview days will be Sunday and Monday (Feb 21-22). Kids will arrive around 3pm on Sunday and then leave Monday. The actual interviews will be Monday. This is better; no loss of school.

egreen-I’m a bit surprised as well that we got no notification…but hey…you never know…

i’m from W. PA…so maybe they do it by region…?

Thanks everyone! Fingers crossed for all of you still waiting on results!

I got the notification from my regular email, as well.

They might do it by region; I’m from the south so it would make sense that they’d start there first. Who knows?

Thanks, mom, for the heads up on the CBH interview days.

As for the length of interviews, it could be to get a response from kids who are simply no longer interested. Between the time of application and time of semifinalist notification, kids can change their mind about either the college or that specific program. This way, the fellows people can whittle down their list and perhaps give a finalist spot to someone who might otherwise have not gotten on the list simply because there were too many applicants. Sort of like getting waitlisted for a reach college, then getting accepted once other applicants turn down their acceptance.

Good luck to all and hope your interviews go well.

OH MY GOSH

So, I decided to check my spam folder just in case it could of ended up in there

I got the “good news” email…I’m so super happy

Congrats to everyone who got one

Thank goodness I checked my spam, or else i might have never known!!!

haha, that’s great, rocket6louise! Congrats!
It just goes to show you how important it is to be thorough in checking your inbox :)

Everyone who applied…CHECK your SPAM folders!!!

Did anyone get notified thru their Crimson email?

I really think it will help during the phone interview to seem “upbeat,” interested, and dynamic.

The last thing they’d want are people who aren’t “go-getters”.

mom2-the other kid who applied from my HS got notified through his Crimson email, but he doesn’t have another email. He got bad news today :(…but he’s holding out for the CBHP
