So those who aren’t selected can feel certain that they weren’t liked, or that they committed some gaffe during the interview weekend?

It might have been kinder to be vague about this point, so that the unchosen could think, “They would have liked to accept me, but they just didn’t have room for everyone.”

i dont think they are necessarily being sent to people who went to finalist weekend although looks like some did but both AL34 son and my son, didnt go but they are both on reserve pool. but son has been to campus, met with faculty in chemistry and music but no letter

If it help to decode any further - DS and I visited during University Days in Nov. and met with Jami Gates, but did not meet either Dean Sharpe nor Dr. Halli. He has accepted and paid housing deposit but not 100% decided now since neither UFE or CBHP is looking good at this point.

son met with Dr Morgan formally X one and also a few times informally at different events. Hasnt met with Dr. Halli. his meetings with faculty were back about October/november. Hasnt paid his tuition or housing yet (maybe its students that have pd those?)

you know thats the one problem with these forums…as much as you get great info and help, there are always situations where you start wondering WHY? whether it is these letters, or seeing stats of other students and comparing with your own child’s (sometimes better… other times clearly shows why not LOL)

Did anyone get a Dr. Halli letter that was NOT a CBH or UFE finalist???

A mom shared her child’s Dr. Halli letter and the letter sounded like it had something to do with that.

If you got a Dr. Halli letter, please state whether you are a CBH finalist, a UFE finalist, both, or neither.

My gut is telling me the Dr. Halli letters are to improve the yield of accepted finalists. If he’s writing highly personalized notes to some/most of 60 CBH finalists and 60 UFE finalists (with some overlaps), it would make sense that he couldn’t write too many outside of of the finalist groups.

M2CK: my d did not apply to CBHP, but did apply for UFE. She wasn’t interviewed so I don’t think that’s the connection. She’s been on campus a few times, has had face time with Jami Gates, but none with Dean Sharpe or Dean Halli that I’m aware of.

I’m a UFE finalist and got a Dr. Halli Letter
the girl i roomed with at UFE weekend never got a letter…
Friend who applied from my HS(who has sent in his deposit) who is on the reserve list for CBHP didn’t get a letter

I just looked at the letter again and they’re dated February 15th; before UFE and CBHP interviews were held. So I don’t think that the letters have anything to do with the statuses of those who interviewed.

Could it be an OOS vs. instate thing? My D is OOS. And an NMF.

^ think I’ve probably been said before - but this is the downside to being on a board where we can get “too much information.” Could be a group that they determine needs a little nudge to keep their interest, could be random - who knows?
I will say this - it’s not like my son is on here over-analyzing this like I am determined to do! He’s working, as always, and doesn’t really have the time nor inclination to think and re-think this, just interested in the outcome. Grasshopper has surpassed his masters.

parent56 - rest assured you’re on our love train! ;)

I can tell you that our instate definitely doesn’t show D the love that UA does. I’m sure that’s because most of the top students in our area do end up going to UT. Their mailings are very factual, and she did make it into their Honors program & was asked to interview for their select program. But nothing personal. I wonder what their mail to OOS applicants is like.

Statistically most state schools draw heavily from their own state without doing anything extra due to the financial reality of in state vs. OOS tuition and public vs. private. If they’re trying to convince students from OOS to attend then these letters might be a little nudge.

lol… my son is the same way AL34… he is still working away on senior year, doing what he needs to do…in fact is in indiana right now for his interviews for the research program there… his plan is wait til everything in and then figure it all out, no sense doing it now with unknowns still out there according to him.

I received my acceptance letter to fellows and a generic letter congratulating me on my acceptance to the Honors College (which I had already received months ago strangely) I did not receive any letter from Dr. Halli though.
