On my application, I mentioned that I was a national merit semifinalist. Last Friday, I learned that I was a NMS finalist. Even though it will probably have negligible effect on my application, would it be worth my time to notify Princeton or any of the other schools I applied to that I became a finalist?

saints, you can put it on your Mid-Year report for the Common Application.

He may be asking for if that has already been submitted though, as it has been for many of us (myself included haha)

*That’s supposed to say Stanford instead of Princeton. I also posted this in the Princeton forum.

If you’ve already sent in your mid-year report, I don’t think you should contact admissions solely to tell them about semi-finalist–>finalist status. IIRC, the great majority of semifinalists continue to finalist status. I have the impression that they only want to hear about more unusual things at this stage. Congratulations, though. : )

Stanford says you may send updates, but requests that they be of a regional, national, or international level. I don’t recall exactly where I saw this, but I believe it was on the website. NMF is national level, so why not?

What about being named a candidate to presidential scholar? Worth an update?

@idkmyname, I don’t think you should notify Stanford about being named a candidate to presidential scholar, because it’s based solely on SAT score, and Stanford already knows your SAT score.
