Notre Dame Class of 2021 EA Discussion

@soulpup I know several kids who were deferred and ultimately admitted. If ND is your first choice then stay in touch with your regional admissions officer, provide updates with any major happenings (awards, etc) and let him or her know ND remains your first choice. Good luck!

@suzy100 Thank you so much for the encouragement! I’m down but not out!!!

S17 was declined. 3.9 UW GPA, 32 ACT, lots of EC’s and community service.

It was not unexpected and he has other irons in the fire.

Congrats to all the acceptances! To all those deferred, hang in there, but be sure you have a backup plan!

@as1799 Hey, I’m sorry you weren’t admitted. I was deferred. I wanted to tell you that you, of the many people I’ve “met” on college confidential, are one I’d love to go to college with … you are hilarious, interesting, smart, self-effacing, and an all-around cool person. Congrats on being you! This is Notre Dame’s loss! They missed out on a good one in you!

Deferred. 3.75 GPA, 35 ACT, focused extracurriculars, awards, great essays, good recs, but no leadership. I’m very content with deferral, I expected it. To all of those who got in, congratulations, and to all of those who are in the same boat as I am, best of luck.

@soulpup thank you so much! Same to you. You seem really cool. Good luck with Notre dame!

ACCEPTED!!!

Congratulations to everyone accepted in the EA round.
You will have a great time and absolutely love the campus and the student community there.
.
P.S: Check the ground floor of Hesburgh Library when you get on campus. You are in for a surprise (along with the collection of all newspapers from May 1860-something.)

BTW, any international applicant here who was accepted?

@soulpup it is my understanding that if Notre Dame defers you you are definitely still in the game!

@collegemomjam I can’t seem to find any information on how many deferred applicants were admitted in prior years. Does anyone have any idea?

I’m not sure I have seen those stats. I just know that if you are deferred they must think you have a chance otherwise they would deny your application. And I think I remember hearing an admissions rep saying that if you applied EA and were deferred it gives you a slight advantage RD. Fingers crossed!!! Definitely get in touch with your rep and update them on your new accomplishments, etc.

My daughter got in yesterday and she/we are thrilled and humbled. Astoundingly, this year’s REA class was even more selective than last year’s with 1470 acceptances out of 6,020 applicants (24%).

http://admissions.nd.edu/connect/news/notre-dame-admits-1470-early-action-applicants-to-the-class-of-2021/

Last year was 1,610 out of 5,320 (30%)

There were 893 deferrals vs. 818 last year. If you were deferred hang in there, b/c there were 150 fewer acceptances in REA this year. Could mean a few more available in RD this spring. Keep the faith. Here’s a good article from the ND website posted today:

Accepted! 1550 SAT and solid extracurriculars. Does anyone know of a Groupme or similar platform for Notre Dame class of 2021? I would love to join!

Backing up @collegemomjam there. Yes, being deferred into RD from EA gives you a slight advantage, particularly if you require a lot of financial aid because the financial aid office makes most of its decision early February. So, definitely do not lose hope and keep the office updated about your accomplishments or any new honors. I would still say that you should be on the lookout for other colleges. College admissions are a crapshoot.

Does anyone know when ND will send out invitations to the Reilly visitation program?

^^^^^ has anyone gotten one?

@11kysta Thanks…was that message for someone else? My daughter was admitted EA.

Has anyone that was admitted EA been contacted about being considered for any kind of Merit Scholarship? They say late January, so not sure if that communication went out yet. Thanks!

@collegemomjam - Looks like we’re in the same boat. I haven’t heard of anything from anyone yet so there’s still hope. I also haven’t even heard of anyone getting invited to the Reilly Visitation Program this year. Last year’s invites went out just after REA acceptances and there was lots of chatter on CC.

I don’t know if my daughter has a shot at Merit at ND, but I know it might sway her if she did. She has good stats and got the Mendoza guarantee, but that alone I’m sure is not enough.
