Congratulations to all of those who applied and got the blessing today of a “yes” to attend Notre Dame. For the rest of us our journey is just beginning. Would love to hear from those deferred and those who like me after speaking with a local ND rep decided to apply regular decision to Notre Dame. Good Luck to all. Post here when you applied and all the details you would like to share. Would also love to know when people do get decisions!

When do RD decisions come out??
“late March”
ah applying next week probably gonna get rejected but a girl can dream i guess
Deferred as well, hey pals! haha
Deferred from EA also! fingers crossed for RD
Greetings all!!
I am submitting my ND app in a few days, just finalizing things and emailing my regional counselor for any last minute insight / tips and making sure she is aware ND is my indisputable first choice ( I have only had email correspondence w her one time before this. Hopefully that doesn’t hurt me- just was not much else to say) So anxious to hear back even though I’ll be honest I think my chances are <1%. I may be a legacy, but as soon as anyone finds out I made a 28 on my ACT, they tell me I have no shot. Haha. English major by the way, 3.85UW/3.9W GPA. To all those without stellar standardized tests, let’s band together and hope!!!
@nduclaunc do you think emailing them makes a big difference? I haven’t
@nduclaunc, it doesn’t necessarily matter if you have stellar test scores to get in, it’s more about your writing and your community service that makes you stand out.
For example, tonight I was flat-out rejected by ND. It’s okay, I’m not distraught or anything, my dream school is MIT anyway and I’ll get my decision for that in about 2-3 days. My ACT score is a 33, my SAT a 1480 (700 English/Reading, 780 math, plus a 20/24 in writing), and I took 3 SAT II tests, scoring well on those, including a score of 800 on my Math Level II.
I volunteer with my church constantly and am invoved with literally every aspect of it, I am on several Varsity sports (and am a 3-sport athlete), I have taken every AP class my school offers and the hardest classes available to any students at my school, I am the captain of the math team (and yes, I am the only female on the 40-person team at all), I am a staff member for a youth positivity group called Operation Snowball, I am a member of the National Honors Society, I have won multiple very prestigious scholarships and trip grants over the years, I volunteer like crazy, I have a 4.85 weighted GPA (3.85 UW), I am a member of the Principal’s Advisory Board and the President’s Forum at my school, I work in the Athletic Training Room in the fall to provide medical assistance on the sidelines at games and to any injured students, I have attended Harvard University’s 2-week summer program which requires an accepted application ad recommendation and lets me live in the dormitories, eat at the dining halls, and take a combinatorics/extreme graph theory class with the head math professor at the college, and --among whatever other activities I cannot think of and many other awards and recognitions I have gained-- I aspire to gain my PhD in mathematics and become a college professor.
Despite all of this, I neglected to spend a lot of time on my supplemental essays. My Common App Essay (if that’s how you’re applying) already got me into quite a few very well to-do schools, yet it was the supplemental essays that ND apparently valued, and I personally deserved to be rejected for not having had taken the time to make those with more voice and representation of my true personality behind all of the accomplishments.
My point is that grades and accompishments, whether academic or activity-wise, do NOT define you. It is who you are and who you show people that you are capable of being that truly gets you places in life. If I honestly had spent the amount of time and effort just on those supplemental essays as I had spent on those of MIT, for instance, I would probably have had a different outcome with my admissions decision. But I cannot change the past, and that is okay. Even though I was not accepted, and even if anyone else here is deferred or “rejected” (I hate to use that term, but it’s quite frankly a true expression of the action), it is not the end of the world and it just means that you have to put more of your best work forward for any other school. You need to show colleges that, no matter how many OR how little things that you havd accomplished materialistically and in service, that there is a heart and a soul beyond the mind that is trying to outsmart all the others with excellent test scores or commendable achievements. Show them WHO you are because THAT is what YOU (the PERSON the college is admitting, not a piece of paper!) are really made of.
- P.S.: Sorry that was long, but I hope it helped clarify my point. :):):) Good luck with RD anxieties !!
I agree that it’s who you are as a student, a person that makes the fit right. Whether that be ND or some other school. I also agree that there are several “right” schools out there for all of us, we just have to find that “one” that fits for us. Each story is different, as each person is different. I hope that all those that were denied and deferred don’t get discouraged.
We really haven’t lived long enough to know what real rejection and obstacles are like. Even those with learning disabilities, we are only 17, 18 maybe 19 years old. We have a long way to go of rejections and let downs. It’s what do we do now?
It’s kinda like life throws you a few “no’s” here and there to see what you are made of. Ask a girl on a date, no thanks, ask a teacher for extra credit to make up a flubbed quiz, no live with it, ask parents for extra money for that video game…no. Well what do you do? Crawl in hole and cry and scream foul! Well this time it’s “we” who should say “NO” I will not be defeated, I will not be brought down, I will rise to the occasion, I will succeed.
We will find that right school. Maybe it will be ND, maybe not…time will tell.
I have only applied RD to ND and don’t know the disappointment many of you are feeling right now but I too have applied to the dream schools, the one’s in my mind that are perfect for me…but are they? Maybe they don’t see it, what’s in me to succeed in their environment. So ahead of those answers I say thank you to those who tell me yes and to those who tell me no because I know I will be successful, I will be great at whatever I decide to do and where I decide to start my college experience. I have an amazing family, some pretty cool friends and a senior year to enjoy. So to all of you, Merry Christmas…Happy Holidays! Enjoy life. Smile, because if you look around I bet you have a pretty great life too!
I definitely would reccomend contacting them however I do not think it would make or break a good applicant. @a20171
@Avarada I am truly speechless after reading what you had to say. Great advice, and your experience has inspired me and reinvigorated my outlook. Can’t thank you enough- sounds like any school, ND included, would be lucky to have you. Best wishes for MIT.
@Seacoast absolute wisdom. I couldn’t agree more. Although I geek out about watching acceptance videos / reading forums because of my obsession w college and where I’ll attend, there is nothing more precious than the current moment and enjoying what’s happening right now.
good luck to all! I was accepted REA and I absolutely think my essays made a difference. I spent a lot of time on them and it definitely paid off.
It sounds like it’s ND’s loss. You’re amazing! Best if luck and wherever you end up, they are LUCKY to have you!
Hey guys! rd here
