@HM0527 I’m so sorry!
Is anyone else thinking “it’s done”’decisions have most likely been made!!!
I’m going CRAZY watching my email! I will be sure to update all you kind parents when it rolls in!
I was mentally preparing myself for Wednesday, but now it appears as if we’ll be notified later next week- gosh I’m so nervous!! @bachbend haha i feel ya
An independent college counselor I know said that a lot of schools are moving their notification dates to Fridays so kids have the weekend to process the news if it’s not good, but of course that’s not all schools, so who knows if it will apply to ND. I’ve heard from other people with kids applying other places that Stanford is releasing this Friday the 7th, Penn next Thursday the 13th, and Emory next Wednesday the 12th. Northeastern came out today. So, basically they’re all over the place!
@sj2019 isn’t there suppose to be an email the week before notifying students?
@HM0527 sorry for the confusion! I meant that I was mentally preparing myself to receive a decision next Wednesday, but since we haven’t received the “week-prior” notification email yet, we will probably hear decision during the latter half of next week and will probably receive the week before email sometime today or tomorrow.
@HM0527 ND evaluates kids in the context of their high school, so even if a person didn’t go to a “good” high school, that does not discount them from being accepted. I went to a medium sized public high school and no kids have attended or been accepted (?) from my HS in 5+ years. There are a lot of schools that act as feeders (often bc of their geographic location/prestige), but don’t worry about that too much.
@HM0527 I agree with @collegegirl6789. Even though your school doesn’t have a strong history of multiple acceptances, the fact you daughter is at the top of her class certainly makes a difference along with other aspects of her application. And if it is a Catholic school, that can only help. In a sense, I feel nervous for my son because although he has very good scores, he could still be denied based on the fact that he is competing with other very strong applicants within our school. It would be really hard to be denied with such strong stats and such a strong demonstration of interest. It is just hard to manage expectations around here. It is going to be a tough week. As you can see by this time stamp, I am not sleeping well! ?
Also, I was looking at the thread from last year, and the email with the portal link came out on the 6th around 8:30 pm, so maybe it will happen today. Let’s hope!
@winelover thanks for checking! Let’s keep up the hope everyone!
ND REA accepts are posted electronically first and then the physical packets arrive sometime later.
What you are talking about does happen at some schools. Most often it isn’t for general acceptances, but instead is for the notices of highly competitive scholarships (i.e. something that goes out in paper form to a fairly small number of people). In those cases, people do sign up for package tracking (but you have to know if the school uses Fedex, UPS, USPS) and then can figure out if a package is on the way.
I don’t recall seeing that happen with anything ND related.
It’s eeerily quiet today on our thread ?
Daughter checked about 1:50 PM EST. No email.
@HM0527 The “eerie quiet” today is probably just our collective disappointment that the portal notification email did not come out last night!
Looking back at the last 3 years of threads on ND’s online release of REA decisions, here’s what I found:
Class of 2020: Mon 12/07/2015 (early evening) … ND email to applicants that REA decisions will be up by mid-Dec
Class of 2020: Mon 12/14/2015 (at 3:42 pm Eastern) … REA decisions posted on the portal
Class of 2020: Mon 12/14/2015 (just before 4:00 pm Eastern) … applicants received email that decisions are posted
Class of 2021: Wed 12/07/2016 (early evening) … ND email to applicants that REA decisions will be up by mid-Dec
Class of 2021: Mon 12/12/2016 (at 3:42 pm Eastern) … REA decisions posted on the portal
Class of 2021: Mon 12/12/2016 (just before 4:00 pm Eastern) … applicants received email that decisions are posted
Class of 2022: Wed 12/06/2017 (early evening) … ND email to applicants that REA decisions will be up by mid-Dec
Class of 2022: Wed 12/13/2017 (at 3:42 pm Eastern) … REA decisions posted on the portal)
Class of 2022: Wed 12/13/2017 (just before 4:00 pm Eastern) … applicants received email that decisions are posted
Class of 2023: Thurs 12/06/2018 … Zip, nada, nothing … Torture, pure torture
So just a slight correction to this ^^ but decisions are (and were) available on the portal at 6:42 eastern, not 3:42.
@suzy100 Thanks for that correction. Yes, 6:42 pm Eastern = 1842 in military time. The actual email that got sent to the prior years applicants that their decisions were available appeared to have come out about 15-20 mins after the 6:42 pm Eastern release of the decisions online.
Who are parents and who are hopeful students?
I’m a hopeful parent
Hopeful student here
Also everyone on here seems to be pretty well informed about the college process so I have a question that might get some minds off the missing email… (I’ve been curious about this and can’t find an answer online anywhere) how do ED and REA schools know if you applied to another college early action? Do they receive a list of what colleges you applied to? Or does common app just like not allow it to happen? What if you do apply against their rules what happens? This is just something I’ve wondered since starting to learn about college applications, does anyone know?
