@WineLover and anyone who needs it, I am currently a freshman at ND and I know how stressful this time is for all of you. I am currently on fall break and would be happy to answer any questions about the admissions process or look over any essays. Please do not hesitate to message me!
Hello @WineLover: Do most students bring their own refrigerators? Also, do kids bring âgaming PCsâ to the dorms (seems like there might not be enough room)
@hpcsa I have a quick question. Was rereading my Dâs âWhy ND essayâ and found an error. She used live instead of life. How big a deal do you think this is? I did not point this out to her. Her teacher even proofread it ??ââď¸
@HM0527 I would simply let it go, nothing can be done to correct the spelling error now and it just might make your daughter unnecessarily anxious. Going forward, encourage her to have several folks proof read all her college specific essays. Again, very best of luck and success!
@hpcsa ok I will take your advice and not mention it. I was gonna suggest that she email her AO and just throw it out there like, yes I know I missed an error but I think not mentioning is better for her sanity. Do you know how the admissions process works? Does her AO read her app first and then if itâs a yes for him, he forwards it to the powers that be?
@HM0527 Yes, I think this is right - following up with her AO on such a relatively minor issue at this stage would not be helpful. No specific insights into the internal ND admission process per se, yet there is no question that the AO assigned to review all the applications from your daughterâs high school will read them in context and with a deep background understanding of the school itself. Notre Dame is doing this successfully for a very long time. She/he will then provide a recommendation that will be considered and reviewed by the Admission Team, which will jointly make the final decision. For REA applicants this will not always (there will be rejections at that stage) yet in several cases mean Deferral to RD, for those applications to be reviewed again in the context of that applicant group. REA Admission is very highly competitive for unhooked students, just based on academics alone. You might want to make your daughter aware that this is one of the possible outcomes that, if it were to occur, should not be considered as a negative at all during this phase of the ND application process. Good luck!
Donât sweat the typo!
@suzy100 thank you. Itâs hard but Iâm gonna try. I thought the app was the most stressfulâŚitâs not!! Itâs the waiting.
I totally understand, @HM0527. I definitely remember it. After the acceptance we had to sweat out several months waiting for the financial aid award too. Itâs rough!
Thank you for your input! I have also taken 11 AP classes throughout high school if that makes a difference.
Finished my EA application yesterday best of luck to everyone! And now we waitâŚ
@bachbend D applied too. Godâs graces on you as well.
I applied EA to Notre Dame as well! I have the following-
1430 SAT
33 ACT
55/1091 (rank)- thatâs around top 5%
Main ECâs:
-work at a restaurant
-volunteer at a hospital (300+ hours)
-heavily involved in youth ministry at my church(200+ hours)
-completed a business internship at my local chamber of commerce
-very involved in DECA at my school( 2 yr school officer, co-founded entrepreneurship club at my local middle school, wrote articles, etc.)
Main awards:
-state finalist for DECA (for the project I created an entrepreneurship club)
-AP Scholar with Distinction
Essays: I believe they are very strong! My personal essay was probably the most powerful because my faith is something Iâm pretty passionate about. I also did the âbring an object to collegeâ and âtake a riskâ supplements. For the first one, I talked about my state finalist reward and what it represents to me. For the risk prompt, I wrote haikus about my favorite foods. It was the most difficult but also the most rewarding!
Recs: My teacher one is definitely at least (9/10). I have been talking her ear off about Notre Dame since my sophomore year and she knows a lot about me and what drives me! I have no clue about the counselor rec because my school has around 4,000 students, so personal relationships with them is very difficult. I also did the additional recommender thing through the common app and had my youth minister from my parish who I served as a Confirmation TA for write one. She knows a lot about my personal struggles regarding faith and was able to exemplify my resilience in her letter.
One thing youâll notice is that Iâm not the president of multiple clubs or captain of a varsity sport. For those who do, I applaud you! For those who donât, donât fret! Pretty much everyone I have talked to about this school, whether it be my career counselor at school or people who went to/are going/work at Notre Dame, have emphasized the holistic review process and how important it is to showcase you have a passion for something, This is what I tried to do with my extensive involvement in DECA, as I hope to pursue a degree at Mendoza.
Another thing, which most people applying here probably know, but I thought Iâd mention anyways: because of the holistic review process, many people much more brilliant than I get in, and those who are seemingly âless brilliantâ do get in. I think we can all applaud ourselves in being exceptional applicants for simply finishing this early. I will be praying for all of you, cause I know how stressful this process can be and Notre Dame would be the dream for so many of us! Good luck to yâall!
@sj2019 good luck to you! Your post is very well written. Your positive attitude toward others shows and Iâm sure ND will see that in your application. Godâs graces on you.
Hello! I applied REA this year and I just had a few questions about this process.
- What type of students are accepted REA?
- How many students are rejected (not deferred) REA?
- Is there an actual specific date for admission notifications or is it generally sometime in mid-December?
- How can an applicant check their admission status? Is the email that they send the first way to know?
- How does Notre Dame see the ACT scores since they are superscored? If I sent multiple scores do they see all of them or do they just see what my super score is?
Thanks for your help in advance.
Last yearâs release may helpâŚ

If I took the October 27 ACT will that be able to be in my application for REA?
@josborn03, from the ND website:
For first-year applicants seeking fall 2019 enrollment, the final acceptable testing dates for the ACT are:
Restrictive Early Action: October 27, 2018 (must be received by November 30, 2018)
@suzy100 my DD received an email today saying her application is complete and now ready to be reviewed. Theyâve had all of her stuff for at least a couple weeks now. Is this email because the 11/1 deadline has now passed?
My son received it today too. He sent everything in on the 21st but I think recommendations just got there last week. My understanding is that they donât begin reviewing apps until after the deadline.
