Notre Dame Class of 2023 REA Thread

@katrina1 @hpcsa As someone going through the REA process right now, I can tell you from a student’s perspective that I asked my parents not to talk about college admissions right now. Every day at school, classmates are talking about colleges and EA/ED coming out before Christmas, so it’s a bit too much “college” stuff right now, especially with the heavy senior year course load. My parents have been good about backing off, but my classmates not so much.

@GeronimoAlpaca I feel ya. It’s definitely rough.

@GeronimoAlpaca, It is definitely rough. I am listening but not initiating conversations except when I asked about a study abroad session. What I want her to realize is that, whether she goes to Notre Dame or not, a lot of her life will still be the same. She’ll have the same family, same interests, same family dog… I’m glad you think my approach is a good one. If I want to chat, I can come online!

Our daughter told us there is an engineering live broadcast tonight.

@katrina1 LOVE LOVE LOVE THAT LOGIC!! Gonna use that for our D if things don’t go the way she would like them to!!!

DS watched the Business broadcast last night - mostly about how to be a successful student, rather than business focused. I think going back to watch all of these webcasts would be helpful regardless of the topic - gives an insight into life at ND. If DS is admitted, he plans to watch them.

For students/parents interested in Notre Dame Engineering, enclosed a web link with the College of Engineering profile from the American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE) on ABET accreditation: http://profiles.asee.org/profiles/7747/screen/21?school_name=

@hpcsa, That was very helpful – thanks! I showed it to my daughter. 12 more days to go! Our daughter is at work when the announcement comes out, but she will be out of work 15 minutes later. I think I’m going to drive her to work on that day!!!

For sure it comes out on the 11 or 12? Should they be getting an email this week?

How do we know what time the email is being sent?

@Tea4Two ??‍♀️

@HM0527 Do we for sure know a date? I’ve only seen mid-December as the release date.

@Tea4Two there are people on here saying the 11th or 12th. Not sure how anyone would know for sure?

Final ND REA Decision Date will be determined by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, based on remaining workload and therefore is still subject to change. Nevertheless, if I were a betting person I would wager for Wednesday, December 12th @ 18:42 Notre Dame time… Best of luck to all REA applicants!

I am really nervous about these decisions. This will most likely be my first notification and I would like it to be an acceptance!

I have a 4.7 GPA (weighted) and got a 34 on my ACT (R: 32, S: 34, M: 34, E: 34)

I have around 300 hours of community service over the past four years, primarily working at a summer school for kids that have been struggling through the school year. I am also a pop warner cheer trainer, working about 7 hours a week to prepare the cheerleaders for their season.

I have been captain of my cheer team for two years, I am in ASB, Link Crew, President of the largest club on my campus, and on the board of the National Honor Society.

Other than that, I am a tutor in science, math, English, and Spanish. I have done scientific research for two years, Mock Trial for two, and spent a summer at Brown University studying neuroscience. I would like to go into biology, on the pre-med track. In addition, I received the University of Notre Dame junior book award (wrote about the book in my supplement).

I am an African-American female in most likely the highest income bracket. What are my chances of getting in? Thanks!

@dancegirl28 You received the University of Notre Dame junior book award from your local Notre Dame Club? This is excellent! Together with your very good stats, EC’s and URM status, you seem to be an excellent ND REA fit! ND’s REA yield rate is well above 60% - please make sure to accept the admission offer, once you get admitted in 2 weeks. Best of luck!

@jfk123, Did you know college confidential has a section for chance me questions?

From what I gather, we are mostly students or parents of students who have applied REA to Notre Dame. You may have a broader audience with the chance me group. I’ve been directed to some articles and information on Notre Dame which have helpful for me, including the one below:

https://news.nd.edu/news/class-of-2021-intellectually-and-globally-diverse-dedicated-to-service-and-leadership/

My daughter has high test scores and GPA but lots of people apply to Notre Dame who have both. These were the paragraphs in the article that really stood out for me:

"Among applicants with a 33 to 36 ACT score or a 1510 to 1600 SAT score, just 49.8 percent were admitted this year, down from more than 80 percent seven years ago, reflecting a more holistic approach to admissions that relies less on test scores.

“Admissions is using test scores less than we used to,” said Bishop. “Other factors have received added consideration such as academic performance in school, motivation for learning, intellectual depth, creative thinking, resilience, records of leadership and/or entrepreneurial spirit and a strong drive toward service to others.'"

Good luck!

I’m a current freshman and I applied REA last year. We received an email on Wednesday, December 6, saying that decisions would be released in mid-December. A week later, on December 13, we received an email at 6:50 pm Eastern time saying that decisions were available – but the portal became available at 6:42. I would guess that decisions will be released on 12/12 at 6:42 EST this year and if not that day definitely sometime that week.
Be wary of people who claim to have inside knowledge about the process or post things on here to try to spread rumors about the release date! The only way you will know for sure is if you can access the portal or receive an official email.
Best wishes in these last few weeks! If you have any questions for someone who went through this process last year let me know and I’d be happy to help! :slight_smile:

@collegegirl6789 thank you! how did you deal with the last few days before decisions came out? notre dame is what I’ve been working towards throughout hs and it’s pretty nervewracking to know that in just few days, I’ll know!
