Sorry if I missed this…any one know of the date when RD will be released? TIA.

Do you have any idea when they will hear if they are a finalist? TIA

So, on release date for regular decision, one person on this thread says 3/27, another said 3/25. Last year its was 3/20, which I believe was a Friday. Wouldn’t that make the most likely date for this year 3/18. Am is missing something?

It was the same user “HumbleTeen” who gave both dates, lol.

In 2021, decisions were released on Friday, 3/20, but 2020 decisions came out on Friday, 3/26. So almost certainly on a Friday, but whether that is the 18th or 25th is TBD.

Not necessarily. My son got a merit scholarship that’s awarded to him to attend and he is deferred.

Please clarify. Are you saying that your son applied REA, was deferred, and has since been awarded a merit scholarship by Notre Dame? I find that hard to believe. First, as 2Devils correctly points out, a merit scholarship nomination means Notre Dame deems you to be in the top (probably 15% or so) of the applicant pool, and a deferral pretty much by definition means you are not… qualified for admission, yes, but on the margin and they want to compare you to the RD applicant pool. Not saying it’s impossible, but your claim seems highly suspect unless your son accomplished something truly amazing since applying REA that would have changed ND’s view. Also, merit scholarship finalists are going through the next round in the process that starts March 6 according to the e-mail my son received. Again, not saying it’s impossible and there aren’t scholarships awarded outside this process, but based on process outlined by ND, no merit scholarships have yet been awarded.

While I agree they are unlikely to get merit, I do think a deferred candidate could be in the top 15% of the 26,000 applicant pool. They do actually get in and while ND has a high yield, not 100% of REA admitted actually attend.

You highlight a mistake in my post… merit semifinalists are not ~top 15% of applicant pool, but ~top 15% of the students admitted. There is virtually no way that a deferred candidate would go from “maybe” in REA round to top of admitted pool in RD round. My guess is that this student has received an outside scholarship and not a Notre Dame merit scholarship.

Has anyone heard back regarding merit scholarship finalist round selection for class of 2026? The interviews that begin in March.

It could be the Lilly Endowment scholarship which is available to only students in Indiana (cream of the crop), varies by county (some base it off merit, others it’s need/having a significant obstacle like a parent dying), that grants full-tuition to any Indiana university public or private. It is my understanding most of the recipients are competitive for Notre Dame, so that’s my guess, if the poster is an Indiana resident. There are ~150 scholarships awarded yearly.

I’m not quite sure how you would categorize my son’s scholarship but it’s listed as merit in the ND website. He’s awarded before acceptance, that’s for sure.

Ahh, that makes sense, as the application and award process for these scholarships is different, through the WGA. Regardless, congratulations to your son for earning one of these scholarships! I would have to think earning this scholarship would be a good indication of admission in the RD round. And I don’t think there are any ND-awarded merit scholarships that cover the full cost of attendance, so that’s truly fantastic.

My daughter just heard…she wasn’t selected to move forward. Now waiting on the financial aid letter.

D22 was selected as a finalist. She was just lucky. Good luck with your daughter’s FA offer!

Son was not selected as a finalist. Knew it was a long shot. As a RD applicant, just happy at this point to know that he will be admitted.

Does finalist mean you got the scholarship?
