Notre Dame Hook Essay (Prompt 1)?

1) A good story starts with a good beginning. Get us hooked in the first 150 words.

What is the angle anyone who is writing/wrote this essay took? I know on Notre Dame's website, they give a little blurb about how it could be creative, but would it be okay to be a completely fictitious or would it be beneficial to write it as a personal story? I currently have it as creative writing and I think its fairly strong, but I wanted to see other opinions as well.

You should check the ND forum. This question was talked about on there recently

Took me a long time to decide what to write for this one. However since it is such a vague question, I figured many of the applicants would stray away from it. That’s why I chose to do it! I wrote two options actually and I’m not sure which one I’m going to use. One of them was a serious, faithful one. And the other was a personal funny anecdote that I thought would make the board see the more laid back outgoing me.

It says in the prompt “get us hooked in the first 150 words”, but the directions above it give a 150-200 word limit. Which does it mean, that you can only write 150 words or can go up to 200?

Keep it around 150…couple words more won’t hurt you
