sqhs2013…did you end up applying to ND? If so, was the experience at the program the main reason for this or had you intended to apply anyway. If not, would you share, after loving the program, why you did not apply?
Thanks!
T

Yes! I did end up applying there. I absolutely LOVED my experience, and this whole program just reaffirmed that ND was my first choice. If you have any more specific questions, I’d be happy to answer them!

Hi!
I applied to this program too and I was wondering what the scheduling was like. The website didn’t really get information on the types of things we would be doing while we’re there. I just want to know what kind of activities you guys did last summer. Thanks!

I see there are multiple Pre-college threads on CC. lol I’m following all of them now.

Haha me too :P

Goodluck guys!! I had to withdraw my app because I’ll be in dual credit Econ during the time of the seminar so I had to choose one -.- my schedule is filled up next year cuz of IB so yeah ):

I’ll be applying for the class of 2018 this fall through. COME JOIN THE THREAD :)

The days are not too rigorous, but you will have to prepare a final group presentation near the end of the seminar. They mix great lectures with a myriad of topics and really fun outings around Chicago and South Bend. There is enough free time to look around campus on your own, and a couple meal times can be spent as you please. They have fun activities set up every night: eg. Savenger hunts, a dance, bonfire. They COMPLETELY spoil you with free gear! So expect your schedule to be fun and not too demanding! Its really awesome! :D

I applied to the seminars too, the global issues seminar. I can’t wait to find out!

Did anyone get accepted or rejected yet? What size envelope was it?

Lots of talk about this. Looks like results will be mailed today.
T

Anyone know how long results will take to come in the mail? I am hoping they come ASAP!

My daughter got a regular sized envelope in the mail today from ND. Rejected:(

Has anyone else received a letter yet? I haven’t…

I am getting nervous!

Nevermind I got one… Rejected… To be honest I’m a little surprised and now I am absolutely terrified about actually applying to Notre Dame. I have a 3.96 GPA 34 ACT State runner up in acadec, captain in 2 other things. over 650 hrs of community service. work experience, etc… I just don’t know what to expect next year now…

Not too surprised, but it would have been cool to go on ND’s dime

Rejected as well. Honestly, I did have hope that there was a chance of me getting in. @cengel… similar statistics… 2250 SAT, 4.5 GPA, 400+ service hours, etc… But I think the thing we must remember is that the application pool will be different when actually applying to Notre Dame, and hopefully less rigorous but who knows. I must say that I am quite terrified about applying for Notre Dame next year, especially when Notre Dame isn’t even on the list as one of my high reaches… HYP/Columbia/etc. are. I’m trying to comfort myself with the fact that perhaps this was more of a political acceptance, since I have heard that they often select students from schools where graduates haven’t gone to Notre Dame. Perhaps they selected students based on more what they merely saw in the application. Hopefully.

Other than that… I’m not sure what to think.

I guess it’s a good slap in the face with reality. I’m glad the rejection came now, rather than next year from colleges because maybe this rejection will get a fire under me to actually work harder.

Let’s hope for the best for everyone else on CC, and let’s hope for the best for our futures.

Another no on our end. Solid SATs, tons of service, sports, rigorous courses, etc.
Hmmm…guess as Amplified said, it’s a good slap in the face with reality. In this economy, things are tight for free programs and scholarships. In this age of social media, more and more students become aware of programs and the applicant pool gets tighter and tougher.

But, I will say that the school counselor said it is a ‘recruiting tool’ so those who are already qualified for ND and clearly have it on their radar (or their school has a history with ND), may be less likely to get in (as they do not need the help or motivaton). Not sure how true that is. Could just be that they had more qualified students with better essays. Who knows.

Oh well, thank goodness others summer things have already come through!
T

p.s CONGRATS to those who DID get in. Be proud…the letter of rejection said the competition was serious.

I am sure those who were accepted had amazing credentials… But I must say I am curious as to how much geographical, economical, cultural, and ethnic diversity actually did play a role… After all, those were the four things mentioned on the application website… But then again maybe I was just not good enough… who knows

I was surprised by my rejection as well. I have a 33 on my ACT, 2200 on my SAT, 4.0 unweighted GPA, ranked first in my class, etc. But then I remembered that diversity was their number one goal, so I’m not as bummed out. I’m white and from Ohio (which has to be at least in the top 5 of states who send the most students to ND), so I can’t be surprised.

I’m still convinced I’ll be accepted there in the fall, though. Don’t let this decision affect your self-esteem or whatever.
