Hi,
For anyone who was pre-approved to Mendoza (majoring in finance or accounting) for the class of 2021 or for anyone who currently goes there, what kind of stuff did you put on your common app? Did you do a balance of business-related stuff and service? All of my ECs are either business/finance or service so I didn’t know if it would be wise to do 5 spots on the common app of finance stuff and the other half service or more of one and less of the other. Also, what were your test scores and GPA like? Thank you!
I got pre-approved for Mendoza and none of my ECs were business/finance related. I had piano, french, NHS, lots of community service, MUN, student government, among others. I would recommend that you use the common app to demonstrate what you most like to do, what you are most passionate about, as well as what you have done for the longest (shown the most commitment to). Personally, I wanted to show that I am well rounded and involved in many different things which I love to do.
What do you think about these ECs for the common app? I think they show my community service as well as my passion for finance and business. Thank you!
FBLA (2 years, VP); Financial Investments and Applied Economics Club (3 years; VP one year, president next); started my own Micro-hedge fund (2 years; president and founder and 25% of profits go to charity); economics research (3 years and for 2 of those I did it with a professor at the university next to my high school); intern at M&A firm (2 years during summer); volunteer at my church (6 years); volunteer at veteran’s hospital (1 year); volunteer at volunteer at orphanage (2 years); math and English tutor (2 years); NEHS (2 years; possibly VP next year)
And by the way, NEHS is National English Honors Society
@Ucanm17 Your achievements are incredibly impressive and noteworthy. There is no doubt why you were pre-approved for Mendoza. How exactly did you start the Micro-hegde fund? That is very intriguing to me.
My son had only one business related EC on his application, a year-long entrepreneurship internship. He also did a year-long engineering thing. Everything else was normal HS stuff, robotics, playing sports, volunteering, a couple clubs.
@Indy101010 I have not yet been accepted to Mendoza. I plan on applying next year. As for your question, it wasn’t too hard.
I got pre-approved for Mendoza EA. I had 780CR and 720M for old SAT and all my main ECs were business related. I started my own small business second semester junior year and also had taught a entrepreneurship business at a local middle school for a couple of years. Other than that, my ECs were related to the wilderness and outdoors.
Also, I have taken 8 APs and 4.25 GPA. I also had half of my ECs on the common app for business related and the other half with my outdoors related ECs. Hope this helps.
