Nov. 3 SAT 2 US History

hey im taking world history in Dec.

Anyone know a good TEXTBOOK for world history?

im looking for a textbook, not a review book. thx

You wouldn't want to read a whole textbook in one month man...and besides, the world history is reportedly easier than US History...just use a review book like Barron's.

Actually, I used to read The Earth And Its People for fun, but I'm a social studies nerd...

Jamestown was a business venture aka joint-stock company aka commercial gain

the picture with Theordore near a division sign was about wilson winning the election

i didnt know the rock and roll one, turner thesis escaped me and was peggy eaton the answer for the question about andrew jackson?

I put Peggy Eaton, my reasoning being that she's a woman, and that wouldn't have appealed to the common man. But apparently it was his lifestyle, i.e him being a rich plantation owner.

Rock and roll one is Billie Holiday, Turner thesis has to do with social moblity in the american west.

oh and for that theodore roosevelt quote:

what was he trying to do?

two choices were "overturn monroe doctrine" and "interfere with caribbean affairs"....which was right?

and what was an original purpose of the federal reserve act?

and the interstate commerce gave the federal government power over the states, right?

and did the quote about the runaway slaves show that they retained their african culture? i put that because they had ethnic names that they called themselves even though their owners called them something different.

and homestead act - opened western lands.

native american population went down after europeans entered.

and there was a question about the function of a certain colony. i think it was pennsylvania. and a choice was "catholic haven" or something. i almost picked that but then i remembered that it was maryland that was the catholic haven. does anyone remember that question?

i took a nap, and when i woke up, i randomly remembered some more questions. haha.

okay does anybody know the answer to the quote problem that said sth like the employer is in control of the means of production and the worker is supposed to used those means given to him or sth? and the answers were TR, Eugene V Debs, Jane addams...and so forth..

Was that Eugene V Debs??? I thought it was pro-capitalism so i excluded him

it was eugene debs. it was anti-capitalist.

the quote about the runaway slaves showed they retained their african identity

virginia was a business venture

andrea Im pretty sure Roosevelt was trying to justify inference with caribbean affairs because of his "Roosevelt Collary (sp?) to the Monroe Doctrine."

10 raw is 800 right?

if unlucky ^
might be a 790

what was the good neighbor policy?

i did the more investing in Latin America
but Wiki says its stopping military invention

And the picture that had "Tammany" written on it with whiskey
that was corruption right????

ya that was urban corruption^

the good neighbor policy was reciprocal trading rights.

it was not the one answer that had Latin America in it because that answer said an end to trading with Latin America

Damn I don't remember what I put for the forign policy one. And for the quote about slaves, I put they took in part of their master's religion and identity, because they were given other names.

What was the original purpose of the federal reserves act? I remember reading that one and thinking all of the choices were kinda similar and any one of them could have been teh answer. I don't know which one I guessed. Same with the interstate commerice act.

GAH, I'm ****ed. I think as it stands now i can only hope for a 700.

I can think of at least 7 I got wrong, so lets just say I got 9 wrong. I think I omitted 3 or 4, so that'd be a -14. What's that low 700s? GOD I hope there's a good curve this time, one of the PR tests I took had a -15 curve. Probably not though.

Actually thinking about it more, I think I might have gotten a high 600s.

-14 wrong would be around 750.

-10 raw score would be 800.

This test ticked me off. I mean, that one about labor unions where the answers were I, II, and III.... nothing characterized labor unions during that time!

Okay, so does anyone remember what the last answer on the Andrew Jackson/common man question was? I selected that. It was right after Peggy Eaton. I'm thinking it was wrong

For the cartoon one, I put immigration problems because it said "Greek slave" because it seemed like it was relating to immigration.

For the six religions question I put something with Spanish in it because a lot of spanish people are Roman Catholic

And for the 1880s-1900 question I put Italy and Hungary. I'm pretty certain that's right because after 1800, immigrations from southern and Eastern Europe increased a lot.

oh, and what did you all put for that "runaway negroes" thing? I put that they adopted their masters' culture. I've never read the Bible and I'm not Christian so it was a guess. I thought "Abraham" was Biblical and it was just spelled differently.

You know, all I want is a 710.

It wasn't abraham, he was renamed Abel. And yeah I'm not Christian either, I only know of Abel from my AP lit class when we did a bible survey, well actually I know Abel from teh Simpsons when Flanders did that movie with Rod and Todd. :D

I think the cartoon was about ubran corruption because i remember seeing the word Tammany in there somewhere, and in one of the pictures fat aristocrats were harrassing a polling place.

how can a -14 wrong be a 740? Because 14/4 would be -3.5, that would mean 14 wrong PLUS a 4 point duduction.
