Novels to read for Critical Reading Practice?

I'm about to go buy some books to read for the next 2-3 months, which books should I purchase that would improve my critical reading scores? I'm scoring in a the 600-700 range for math/writing but the 400-500 range for CR. I suck at reading these passages and understanding them in a short time period. What books or novels should I get for pleasure reading and at the same time prepare me for CR on the SAT?

Since your scoring 400-500, reading is not the solution.

First go and buy
the Direct hits books Core and Hard, they are seperate books that contain the best SAT word list. Memorize all 400 words

Next go and buy the Collegboard Blue Book and do all the practice tests.

Make sure you do the tests timed and under real testing conditions.

This should be enough to boost your scores.

Well I do well on the vocabulary section I usually get 14-15/19 out of those right. I have to completely guess on the passage parts because I don’t understand what I’m reading. I also already have the Blue Book and should I buy both volumes for Direct Hits?

yes buy both.

Do what above post said, but for books:

Essays - Best American series (I have 2009 Science and Nature Writing)
Others - Classics (not the easy one)
