November 2008 SAT Writing

really? that would make me so happy. last time i checked people were saying it wasnt. i hope theyre just dumb haha

did anyone else laugh a little when they read the sentence with reporters pretending to be fair and balanced?

No .

you must not hate fox news.

it was definitely the full colon, NOT the semi-colon.

I agree with the above poster. If that answer had contained just a semi-colon, and then been correct in all other respects, I would've picked it. However, I distinctly remember it having some other agreement problem that made it a worse choice.

what about the one with the 3 sisters that wrote books?

I am 100% sure that the incorrect word was "less," because if you have 3 subjects and you're comparing all of them to each other, you have to say "most" or "least" not "more" or "less."

So Anne Bronte was the least famous sister.

^ Omg! Yes!!!
This Writing section is looking to be very good for me. (:

drat, I put E :(

Yep, "less" was incorrect. It would have been correct if there were two sisters, but there were three.

What was the essay q?

What about the question with the foreign exchange student and removing the trash? It went like....I hope the trash is removed before the student arrives.

about eastern europe

the choice with the semicolon was: ";still in"

there's not problem with that, and a colon should not of been used.

the still was repetitive and unnecessary, as well as misplaced.

It made the sentence look something like this "so-and-so was an awesome composer*; still in* Berlin they play his music."

That's just weird and wrong. Totally awkward-sounding.

In contrast, "so-and-so was an awesome composer*: in* Berlin they play his music." sounds infinitely better, and a colon is completely appropriate, because the subsequent clause describes and clarifies the first one.

the sentence was something like

"Zhovasky was a great composer that played in Germany and Eastern Europe: in Hungary they play his music"

i think you possibly might have had to know hungary was in eastern europe? i think that would have helped...

how many (e) no errors did you guys have?

I only had one...

on the section that counted, i had 2

^ yeah I think 2.

i did well in the essay. i think it wasnt so hard as every one said.but section 5 the writting section was so bad.

i think i get more than 2 no errors (around 4 or 5)
