November 2009 CRITICAL READING Discussion

It was gregarious.

The question about him saying his work was the greatest since Beethoven was because of his enthusiasm in his work (this was my answer). I crossed out 3 others (don’t remember them), and the 5th choice was that he lacked modesty in front of the audience.

Hey, come on. Can one of you help me out? It’s obviously gregarious. NOW: what other reading sections did the people with the fuel cell passage have?

CHECKMATE,

i had mother’s appreciation of language, fuel cell, machu piccu, behavioral modification, boston composer, maybe something else…i def had cr experimental though…

ANYONE WANT TO DISCUSS WHICH CR PASSAGES WERE EXPERIMENTAL?

There were passages on a music conductor, a lady’s love for language, Macchu Picchu (which has been well-covered)

no_audio, i was pretty sure that for the intended paragraph, battery vs. gas was the main point

^ i agree with 187

Any answers for mother’s appreciation of language

@sixstring91: That’s what I got. There was another choice that was likely, but was not as good as the the comparison between battery vs gas.

I don’t remember that battery vs. gas argument anywhere in the passage except in that one sentence… so I kinda disagree. But idk… schism…

Lol why the caps. I had math experimental.

I don’t remember a behavioral modification passage. I did not have exp CR.

Lady’s love of language! Argh…

The last one… (words can be aesthetically pleasing… or childish vocab should be abandoned or… )

2 of my math ones were experimental. I think.

@mifune: I guess that was the experimental for us.

sixstring, can you explain the question and the choices you remember for me? i honestly thought i was right, but you might be… i just need to remember the question better… (regarding comparison gas/battery question)

this is what we have

water = moistened
layered = levels of zones or something
task = like carrying a rock up a mountain
something followed by personal hypothesis/theory
lines 7-9 (details) to illustrate the importance of the site
patches = plots

hydrogen

-independence from foreign energy even if coal is less efficient
-passage two gives benefits/drawbacks while passage 1 gives praise or something
-both agree that engine is less efficient
-yield = produce
-comparison of battery powered automobile and gas powered
-doubtful in the end?
-unequivocal
-ready

videogames = diversion
first line presents theory that author challenges

BSO conductor was
-tone = admiring
-musicians worked as hard as he did
-his appearance and something
-dolce = beautiful musical qualities
-overbearing with other composers
-obstinacy
-bethoven = ethusiastic about new work

lang
-mothers appreciation of lang
-tabernacle, trespasses = rich history
-childish vocab should be abandoned
-perpetuate something…

childish vocab should be abandoned… i think behavioral modification is one with monkey riding on tiger

Put childish vocab should be abandoned

I didn’t put moistened for the forest thing.
Lisa’s question… I wasn’t sure. It like asked what the kid did so I was like… well the mom accepted it or w/e?

Battery v. gas was not an answer in the fuel cells. The answer dealt with hydrogen’s application to the automobile. Sorry, I am sure very few will have any idea to what I am referencing.

Thanks, for everyone’s posts. I’m off to the M & W threads.
