I am pretty confident the water over the valley one was consumed. I think moistened was to trick people who just look at the word and not the context, because watered and moistened are relatively synonymous

Okay, then the question was

Which was most comparable to the Incans dragging stones all the way up to build the bulidings on Macchu Picchu?

I remember the passage comparing that action to using the water in the Colorado river to irrigate crops at the top of the Grand Canyon.

What were the other answer choices?

I really don’t think it was moistened either. It was comparing the dry valleys to the lush green fields or something. The dry valleys doesn’t really go with the idea of “moistened”

i bubbled “consumed” because I thought the author was primarily concerned with how different the two sides of the valleys looked. The left valley was barren, while the right was full of lush life… I thought the author used “watered” to emphasize how different they looked visually (how the right valley was coated with thick clouds…) However upon reflection I think the author was trying to emphasize that the right valley was WET, unlike the left (which was arid), to show that it had more life in it or something aghaghaghao;ehlg;adlgk

idk i just thought moistened sounded really awkward

I believe it’s moistened. I was hesitant at first, but the thick, wet clouds were clearly feeding water into the lush valley, not consuming them.

the SATs are so stupid in that way.

canned_dice,

do you remember any other questions that were tricky for you in CR, whether you think you missed them or not? (fuel cell/ machu piccu passages in particular)

and since we have similar versions, which experimental did you have? i’m having trouble remembering which extra section i had.

I also put that other concerts depended on soloists for more money or whatever for the BSO conductor passage.

Dang there were two completly diff versions. I had totally different passages. Environmental, forger, japense girl, and tv and books one. Any answers on those anybody can remember? ESP environmental one

if any of you need further explanation as to why its “moistened” and not “consumed” see this link. you can clearly see in context that the point of “watered” is to emphasize contrast between the “dry”, “brown, lifeless” valley and the lush one:

ugh i can say now, more than ever, that the truth hurts.

Hmm…for the rattling chain one, I narrowed it down to rattling chain and monkey riding a tiger but I thought momkey riding a tiger was better since the monkey had no control where the tiger was taking it, just like the drab hand of cards was predetermined. But I don’t remember enough about what was said in the passage about the rattling chain.

i decided to just look up another passage… if you guys are interested, this is the “mother’s language” passage. the machu picchu passage i posted above^ :

[Moon Tiger - Google Books](<a href=“Moon Tiger - Penelope Lively - Google Books”>Moon Tiger - Penelope Lively - Google Books)

here you can clearly see that the answer to the “marbles rolling” part is NOT sensory. it clearly reflects how she was interested in language at an early age, particularly because of the words’ historical origins (which the author talks about immediately before discussing her childhood). there is NO evidence of ANY sensory imagery here. that she rolls the words around her mouth like marbles emphasizes how enthralled she was with the words themselves, not how the words sounded. if you put “sensory” you completely ignored the purpose of the passage. she never mentioned how much she liked how the words sounded. the context shows that the answer is “rich history”

LOL, trust me, i’m going through the same thing. i just want to give my 2 cents.

I agree with like 99% of those for the 1st version. Maybe you should list the SCfor that one too?

But I’m hoping someone can clarify as to why rattling chain was correct.

You should probably include the SC for the first version as well. It was written down somewhere in these 30 pages… haha.

For the rattling chain one, I think I put the monkey riding the tiger (if that’s the same question.) Cause the sentence as a whole said something about how life WASN’T a rattling chain or something if I recall.
