November 2009 CRITICAL READING Discussion

So, for people that had these passages, which was experimental.

Long Passages: Peru Incas; Hydrogen Fuel Cells; BCC Conductor; Mother’s appreciation of language; i think one more.

Free Will Passage; doctor and how he uses video games; some others

i got absolutely none of these answers… haha. except for hubris! that was one for sure.

Oh I got that too… sooo…

taciturn
altruism
uncorroborated/ephemeral
histrionics
prescient
compilation/commemorated
maybe trivialized/exasperated?? confirm anyone

doesn’t remember hubris in any of them…

scott523kim: I had the same long passages and the one you didn’t mention was about how the world is a stage & the actors are the people and referred to a random game of 20 questions. I don’t recall the exact terminology but I found that one to be pretty hard, along with the fuel cells. Hopefully one of those two was experimental.

there was one question that really messed me up

it was like meading and _______ and impulse and ________

I was really confused with that question.

i said changing perspective, mantle- enclosing?, naive, indignant rebuke, and maria realized that her cousin was vulnerable

what were some of the questions from the sponge section? I had just enough time to answer them but not alot to review my answers. did anyone get c for the last one? I think it said something like “one accepts a viewpoint while two questions the it.”

Vocab was pretty easy, i’m sure

I got stuck on one though, it was something about the meaning of “watered”

Peru Incas; Hydrogen Fuel Cells; BCC Conductor; Mother’s appreciation of language;
^ i had those and my experimental was writing…i didn’t have japanese girl or Edgar allen poe though.

also, monkey riding tiger one–i legit had no idea which side they were on so i blindly guessed all four answers based on what sounded good. probably got 0/4 so there goes my CR score.=(

for the watered one, i thought it was consumed; very likely it was moistened though… :(

Yeah the watered one was E) moistened.

It was moistened. The others made no sense, as the author is trying to describe the valley as natural and full of lush green.

to no-audio.
i chose mostened though… idk. lol

Another vocab one was something about

this group gave more things to people that advocated ______ and common people have no _____ to vote

or something, I put something like advocated against and no incentive to vote.

that one was “elites…latitude”

I don’t know why you got indignant rebuke for the Maria passage. That is too extreme. Besides that, I kinda get the impression that Tsugnami was hurt that Maria was moving away so she was like mean to her. So “deliberate insincerity” makes more sense

@ xAAAx,
did you have a double passage on behavior modification? i had those exact passages and i had experimental reading. if you dont have the behavior mod one, then this could be the experimental reading passage

But why would the ruling party give more rights to the elite for advocating against them?

i don’t remember any of this…could we have had different passages? i KNOW i had cr experimental but people keep talking about passages i did not have

Ok i am a bit worried eight now. None of the voacb u guys are talking about appeared on my test! Im not an international either.

I can remember “seminal” as one answer
