@bestofthebest thanks for telling me now I won’t be too disappointed on Nov 21st!

I don’t know why I put that the arrangement of SiCl4 is square planar … I know carbon/silicone make tetrahedral shapes… so sillyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

Four days till scores.
I’m really not sure what to think on the test, since it was the first time I have taken the Chem SAT II, but we’ll see. I’m hoping for at least 700, but I’m prepping myself for much lower so I’m not too disappointed. I guessed on a few, and I left some blank.

In your opinion, is it better to guess or leave them blank when you have no clue what the answer could be?

@arabguy SiCl4 is tetrahedral… Si has 4 valence electrons while Cl has 7 valence electrons. each Cl shares 1 electron with Si to form a total of 4 single covalent bonds. There are no lone pairs of electrons remaining on Si and therefore, there is a total of 4 bond pairs and 0 lone pairs. This gives a tetrahedral arrangement (A total of 4 electron pairs around the central atom).

This ‘handout’ supports this: http://web.gccaz.edu/~ksmith8/VSEPR%20handout.pdf

@adrenalinegirl I would say it’s better to guess on subjects you’re strong at … I would guess at a bio/english test but not on a math test!

@hindsight1 is square planar even a shape ? It confused me because I knew all bonds were equal thereby making a square shape… silly silly me!

Expecting a 800. :-D

@arabguy square planar is a shape but is for 4 bond pairs and 2 lone pairs. (4 lone pairs form a square base about the central atom while the 2 lone pairs are perpendicular to this square base) think of a plus sign with another line sticking out perpendicularly to the other lines.

I said Si has 0 lone pairs and 4 bond pairs (tetra) in my previous post. I am just explaining to Arabguy what square planar is because he wasn’t sure.

Guys I left too much. Ran outta time. On leaving 10 how much do you guys think ill get?
(Count a few incorrect too :P)

Lol i just want 700+. That would be a good score after putting just a few hours into studying along with my rudimentary knowledge of chem. :)

@hindsight1 Thanks for explaining! Won’t be making that mistake again!

Results just released guys. 770:/…kinda disappointed…but not too surprised. Stupid mistakes and a hard curve are not a good combo. Good luck to the rest of y’all

Got a 650 Pretty happy with that! I also got a 700 in Bio M!!!

780 Chem.
Pretty satisfied

800! Phew Now time for the general SAT ugh

780! @mistswirl, yes time to prepare for the regular SAT
