November SAT discussions (international)

oh no i didn’t notice the scale of the vertical axis is 2. ■■■!!!

does one wrong in maths reflect badly on me? i’m not being condescending because i know most of the applicants from my country would get 800.

similarly on a broader sense, how important is SAT I to intl applicants?

oh btw for explanation of the 2p<x<3p thing

2p<x<3p
2p<100-3p<3p
0<100-5p<p (minus 2p all sides)

0<100-5p means p<20
100-5p
<p means=“” 6p=“”>100 thus p>16
so p = 17, 18, 19
then find x accordingly

mcpheevn,
that’s a really clever way of doing it!

Dammit… So many stupid mistakes…
How much do you think a raw score of 49 would get?

Math:

-The question with a polyhedron with painted sides. Answer was E.
-The last question of one of the math questions with “a” and “a+b”. The answer was B. Something with absolutevalue(blabla)<5
-The really easy question. x-2=1 what does x+2 equal? Answer was 5
-Easy question in the beginning parts of one section. The value of x+100=150

TomBor
A raw score of 49 would give you a 720.

Could someone please explain to me why the answer is “analogy: artist recording her single over and over” and not the sprinter one?

What was that 40/3 ?I am pretty sure we discussed it and agreed that the answer was 43 …

I’m not really sure of that one, but if I remember correctly, in the lines that were indicated, the author was trying really hard and thought he wasn’t good, but in the end when he compared his writing with those of other writers in the workshop he was satisfied.

@overachiever91
The one with 43 is the 17th grid-in question.

40/3 was the one with two triangles with common bases on a line. 40/3 was the distance from one point of one of the triangles to the line.

The 40/3 was the one where you needed to find the height.
I chose the sprinter one because in the lines the author seemed to gain happiness/satisfaction after re-writing some of the older pieces of work. So, I thought in that case it should be the sprinter. :s

I was deliberating heavily between the 2 choices (sprinter & singer) and the reason I went with singer was that the writer, although still not happy (with whatever, I don’t really understand that paragraph), still managed to churn out (technically) good prose. In the same vein, the singer, though ‘wearied’, was able to produce a polished (?) record. The sprinter one was more of satisfied with what he had despite high expectations initially (which I don’t think was mentioned in the passage), so I feel that choice is less relevant to what the author was saying.

“The question with a polyhedron with painted sides. Answer was E.” —Is that the polyhedron with two white faces next to each other ?

I had to long writing sections. In one of them I think there was an Error identification example where the word raise was inappropriately use instead of rise.

And on the improving paragraphs about the Birds 31.E
It was which question should be added at the end of the 1st paragraph and all the qustions began like this ‘How…’

I am also wondering about the math problem with the rope. I do not clearly remember but it was either 1 or 4, but I think it was 1.

i chose the singer
btw what examples did you guys use for the essay?
i kinda made up a story lol

Also I am wondering about the math question with the rope. I think it was either 1 or 4, but as far as i remember it was 1.

The rope was 4

Yes, the word raise was used incorrectly in one of the writing questions.

My friend made up 2 out of 3 examples (fake book names and draw inferences from it) for the Oct SAT and he got an 11.

@bilguun
I have some answers that are not the same as yours…
Is the owning not renting thing a metaphor?? I don’t think so… I think I chose sth quote from authority…
And for the mark twain one, I chose an answer that said explanation of his situation blahblah b/c after the quote it says sth about maybe that’s why the listners did not respond well…
And isn’t the answer for the Indian writer reading out his writing one necessary but unfamiliar?? b/c he talks about how he never used to talk about this stuff before (that’s why it’s unfamiliar) and but then he felt that he needed to
Oh and for the qualifier one, I chose the same thing but I think it’s wrong :l
qualifier means (i looked it up) a contestant who meets the requirements… ahhhhh

@ bilgunn
Oh and could you please remind me what the questions that had the answer perplexity and controversy were about? I just can’t seem to remember having them… thx
