Now how am I going to pay?!?!!!?

Is there anybody out there that currently goes to UNCW and would like to share how in the world they’re paying for college??? Where should I go for scholarships??? What are my options!!! Wilmington is my dream school and now with an acceptance letter from them, it’s getting even more real

Did you apply for financial aid from UNCW? That is where the assistance will come from.

You should start your FAFSA now! See Financial Aid | UNCW

  1. FASFA - as mentioned before, fill out ASAP. Might not find out for a couple of months if you were awarded anything
  2. Fill out the general scholarship application. It’s located in your seaport, or you can Google to find it under the financial aid section of uncw website. Do this before the deadline, which is a couple of months from now, but the sooner the better. There are some short essays, and you can add letters of recommendation if you want, but it’s not necessary for all of them.
  3. Apply for alumni scholarships if you want, but they require letters of recommendation so look through that soon if you want to do that.
  4. Consider Honors college - they have their own dedicated scholarships to honors students. You need to apply and be accepted to honors before you can be considered for them, and then tend to be given out in first come first serve to try to persuade honors students to commit to UNCW

I’m a mom to a current OOS Junior. He was a solid candidate applying a few years ago, but did not have “uber” stats - not a prospect for the Honors College or scholarships (although he applied, because why not?) - 1850 SAT, nominal ECs - 4 years of varsity lacrosse, but not much else, aside from all AP/Honors classes, giving him a 4.2 GPA. No merit aid from the school and FAFSA deemed him ineligible for funds based on my income - however, I have a young son with special needs, for whom I shell out a large amount of money monthly (little/none covered by insurance.) We’re making it work, but not easy. Upside, my son loves UNCW. Positive experience, beautiful campus.
