Scholorships and financial aid for an out of state school?

I was accepted to UNCW and I'm really excited because it was a great fit for me in every aspect, I'm just nervous that the money aspect won't work out. I'm from Massachusetts so obviously I don't qualify for in state tuition, and I'm wondering how other people's experiences were with out of state schools giving finanical aid, especially if anyone went through this with UNCW specifically. Thanks!

It varies widely. Very widely. Most oos schools will only give you any federal aid you are entitled to and state money goes to state students. UNC-CH says they will meet need for oos, I believe (but hard to get accepted), but I don’t know about UNC-W, do they indicate on the aid pages? There are some OOS schools that will give merit type scholarships to some top of the pool students, based on gpa and test scores.

Did you try running the NPC wor unc-w?

Run the Net Price Calculator on Wilmington’s website. AFAIK, they do not follow Chapel Hill’s policy. :(

Have you had your parents run the NPCs on your schools’ websites?? If not, do so. You don’t want to wasting time and money on apps for schools that won’t give much/any aid and your parents can’t afford.

@mom2collegekids @arabrab I just did, its very, very little, but its still much cheaper than the private schools I’m applying to, but they give better financial aid so we’ll see how it all works out, thanks!

have you asked your parents how much they’ll pay each year? If so, what did they say?
