Hi guys now that everybody has found out/or about to find out where they got accepted. I have 1 major concern for when I apply next year. How much school do you miss? Is the amount of school that you missed a lot is the work manageable? I want to be prepared for next year.

This year I missed no days of school because I planned my interviews and tours on the days I had school off. If not I’d imagine I would’ve missed 2 days which is still manageable for my school.

I missed five days, but I applied to nine schools

I had SO MUCH WORK to catch up on, but I eventually did, even if my grades dropped a bit.

I missed 4 days, one for each school. However, I was tardy for 8 more days, since I was so anxious around each visiting day! My grades fluctuated since I was making up a lot of work, but I still managed to pull it off!

I did all Skype/phone interviews, because if I had missed a day of school, it would’ve been like missing a week. I don’t like being absent, because it’s hard to get caught up, especially when you learn new things everyday.

However, some schools REQUIRE that you visit campus, so you should apply early, so you can schedule an interview date without having to have limited dates and times.

It depends on how many schools you apply to and how far away from you they are located. Generally you visit each school once for an interview/tour. My C wanted to stay close to home, so each visit took only a few hours for us. C missed a half day of school for each visit.

Some schools have really nice open houses, but they are on weekends, so you can attend them without missing any school if you are close by. Some schools offer interview/tour on weekends, but if you are able to go during the week when school is in session, you might get a better feel for the place. Though there are schools with Saturday morning classes, so a Saturday morning visit at such schools should give you the feel.

Thanks to all who responded but I will be applying to many schools and my parents are the type who want to see the school for their true self any advice to prepare for the workload other then apply early?

Well, I applied in December, so it was all a rush. Just make sure to contact your teachers and tell them you’ll be absent! Ask them what you will miss, and if they have the work prepared already. Often, they’ll say, “Nope. Check later,” but sometimes, they’ll have assignments all planned out for you to do during the car ride! :)

@GoldenRatio thanks for the tips I will definitely remember also where did you apply/where are you going? (I also think your name is very awesome)

@squashisawesome: Haha, thanks. I take it that you like playing squash? I applied to Choate Rosemary Hall, The Hotchkiss School, The Taft School, and Phillips Academy Andover; I’m planning on going to Choate.

What schools are you looking at?

I went during the summer. Missed nothing ^_^

Accepted into nmh, yes now i´m done!

@Mexstudent WHEWWWWW!!! Congrats!!! Thank God!

@AceNtheHole THANKYOU!!! IM SO HAPPY!!!

@Mexstudent I’m in to NMH too

I missed three school days for 4 visits. It was definitely worth it because I swear I only got in because of my interview. (I also made up all my work beforehand.)

I didn’t miss any school. Since I am international my breaks are a different time, I would just go during the break

@Goldenratio yea, I play squash a lot, I am applying next year to all the ones you did plus like DA, Lawerenceville, Groton basically it comes out to 10 or so schools (my parents want me to get in somewhere!)

Columbus Day is a good visiting day and you can squeeze in two visits if the schools are near each other. The appointments for Columbus Day book up early so make the call as soon as the admission office begins to book interviews. If you are looking at schools that hold Saturday morning classes, a Saturday tour will be similar to a weekday one.

Does anyone know when Milton notifies international applicants?
