So.. since most college decisions are out.. Who's actually thinking about going to SCU! I've basically narrowed it down to SCU or USC. How about you guys? I think i may very well end up at SCU and will be extremely happy. Good luck to all!

I'm undecided, too, between SCU and the $16,000/year scholarship they have given me and UC Berkeley, for which I would have to pay out of state tuition - about $42,00 per year. Any thoughts anyone?

I still don't have my financial aid info - so I can't even start deciding! It is driving me crazy - the euphoria of acceptance is quickly extinguished by the worry that I can't afford any of them!

Yorkshire, my only thought is not to consider how much they are "giving" you, consider how much you actually have to pay in loans and cash. They are both great schools.

Wow! I had no idea Berkeley was so expensive for out of state students!

I'm still waiting for USC, but other than that i think i might be going to scu. sooo excited!!!

It's between SCU and UC Davis for me. Financial aid is definately a factor, but my college counselor said that SCU gave me a pretty nice package....so I'm leaning heavily towards SCU now.

The small class sizes and gorgeous campus at SCU definately don't hurt either. :)

tocollege, I hope you get better FA than I did---I was so disappointed. Of the 8 schools who sent me packages already, SCU's was the lowest by more than $10,000.

tocollege - in state cost for UCB (room, board and tuition - or "fees" as they like to call it) is about $23,000/year - oos students pay an additonal $19,000. I really like the idea of going to UCB, but my parents are telling me how nice SCU is...

Yorkshire...SCU is very nice.

^^The in-state budget they gave me this year (Berkeley) is even more - $26,586 - so that would be over $45,000 for you? Santa Clara gave you $16,000, so that would be about $30,000-something? No wonder your parents keep telling you how nice SCU is! In an earlier post, you said SCU gave you $7,500 - did they increase it, or was that your brother? (If they increased it, tell us how you did it!)

How are colleges like SCU, USC, UCB, UCLA and Occidental perceived (if they even notice them) in England? I am wondering if any of them have an international reputation.

Yikes, that's even worse news about UCB - SCU is looking better and better. In my earlier post I said my brother received $7,500 last year. We both received acceptance letters from SCU stating we had been awarded Dean's Scholarships. So, I thought I would get the same amount he did, but when I got my financial award offer the other day it was for $12K Deans Scholarship and $4k SCU scholarship.

SCU is only known in England because of the movie, Bend it Like Beckham!
UCB and UCLA are internationally recognized, though not everyone here has heard of them. Occidental is virtually unknown.

What a great surprise in your award offer! Congratulations!!! And thanks for the info - funny how much impact a movie can have - how about USC? I am hoping to do graduate work at Oxford, and am wondering what US Universities might be the best path to that.

Don't know about USC, but I think any of those schools would be a good path...frankly, since I go to an American school I am more familiar with the U.S. system. My graduating class is 22 - most are going back to the states for college.

I'm finding it interesting that someone knows about SCU in England. We are on the East Coast and NO ONE here has ever heard of the place. The first question we usually get asked is "oh...she's going to a CA state school?"

I am going for sure, but received not very much aid at all :( 8k. 3k is work study (which I will take), 1500 as a grant, and 3500 as a loan. I wish I could ask for more :(

i wonder if a lot of OOS apply to scu.

Son is definitely going to SCU this Fall. It was his top choice all along since he toured it summer of his sophomore year while at Golf camp at nearby Stanford. The tour guide was an Engineering student who had an impressive internship at a nearby company.
We already put down a deposit for enrollment and housing. He is really looking forward to college at SCU. He is OOS-Minnesota. SCU is not really well known except for those of us who moved from California to Minnesota.
SCU is also a popular Catholic / Jesuit college for California students who currently attend various Catholic high schools in California. It is a great school. Friends I grew up with in San Francisco all received an outstanding education all are gainfully employed.

ughhh
decisions are so tough

im from shoreline, wa (near seattle)
Got into SCU/leavey business school and was invited to the ACE Program?
Financial aid: $35K in merit-scholarships so its like 15k/year

Got into UW/ross business school
Financial aid: $8k in grants/scholarship so w/ in-state only 11k/year
Close to home, have a lot of friends going there, etc

what do i dooooo?

chung, congrats on the merit scholarship to SCU. They gave me the lowest of any of the other 4 schools I'm considering--by $13K! There's no way I can afford to go to SCU as it would cost me $41K a year.

Chung, SCU's business school is wonderful! And I live really close by, so I have visited. They're building a new business building and A LOT of new facilities. Plus 15k a year is really really good; you should go to SCU (:
