Now that you've been accepted.....

When do the merit award letters come? (From looking at archived posts) Two years ago the EA notifications were much later and the students received their merit award amounts along with their acceptance letters. I wonder if that will be the "Case" this year? God, that was awful. Sorry. If D attends , I'll try to refrain from ever doing that again. Promise . It was just a "Case" of poor judgment and little willpower on my part. ;)

Ok good to know you're going to refrain as should your daugher come here we all hate Case puns and call it CWRU ("crew") anyway. ;)
My friend who works in admissions has told me the debates on how much they can afford to give the admitted students in scholarships took a bit longer than anticipated (as we're currently short financially and there was too much given to the current freshmen). That word should be coming out before the end of the year/ early next year though.

stargirl,
Do you know if the decide on merit aid as they decide on admissions or if they wait until after they have made all the (EA) decisions?

stargirl, I was to the tackling the mailman stage thinking that scholarship info would come with the admissions letter. :(

I have found it interesting though that virtually all of the postings of acceptances are from or about very qualified students. I'm wondering if there is a process whereby relatively clear admits are being pushed out first. I think I read that these decisions are sometimes called "first reads" or "on first read" and don't go to committee at some schools.

Case isn't a bit "short" financially in terms of financial aid. That was a "planned" shortage so they could build the buildings etc. Scholarships come out of endowments, and can't be used for other things.

so is it safe to say that these "first reads" will receive significant scholarships?

I know they wait for the merit aid until they've gone through everyone; it wouldn't be fair if they didn't! That's why some have learned the descisions before others and why merit aid isn't sorted out yet.
Regarding scholarships, it's true that scholarships come out of endowments but part of the current problem is we are recieving less and less of them, particularly from alumnae who are mad at the current university policies (for example those who are from the "Western Reserve" aren't happy to see the school now called "Case"). Athough the most prominent example of this are the issues around new buildings and such (currently none of the newly built dorms have been named, for example) the lack of endowments is going to affect the amount of scholarships given out next year.
As for the way the committee and how it works here for admissions, I'm not sure how much I'm allowed to say about specifics versus what my friend just happened to tell me as a friend. Sorry guys.

According to Case Western admissions (just called around 5 minutes ago...), letters are being mailed TODAY. Letters will include scholarship information! Who knows if this is the truth, but it's what admissions said, so we may be seeing if we get scholarship offers in a couple of days!

atomicfusion, it is safe to say that I was only speculating. ;) I have no knowledge of their procedures but I hope that your further speculation is right.

Case is one of few schools that is really need blind for merit awards. Those awards will be included in the acceptance letter. Any other Fin Aid will have to wait until first of year and FAFSA filings begin.

Congrats to all accepted this year. Seems admissions got their act together for your class. Last year, it was delay, delay, delay. Finally got email acceptance in mid January, followed by letter dated same day.
