Today my son received the snail mail version of the "you're accepted" email...very exciting but what WASn't very exciting is he received no scholarship sigh.

A parent newsletter arrived today as well and in it, a statement that scholarship letters generally will be included in the admissions letter. I call CASE a bit ago and they confirmed this.

What an up and down rollercoaster ride with emotions. So excited that son was admitted and now without scholarships, can we afford it? If I use their financial aid estimator, I get a totally different (higher) number than the FAFSA EFC. If this high number is true, then we can not afford it, oh no!

I tried to sign online with the enclosed password etc and no luck. SSN not in database. The same gentleman that told me the scholarship letters would be in this package, told me it would probably be the weekend before my briefcase would work for son online. Thought I would pass all of this on.

Yes the scholarship awards do come in the letter. That's too bad about your son. However, the letter also says that financial aid packages are put together later so perhaps he'll be eligible for that!

Are you under the impression that the online financial aid estimator is strictly need based? It seems that their online financial aid thing isn't working anyway. Did you submit FAFSA and/or CSS? Do you think they looked at that?

Mominin, this may not be the case, but I have known kids accepted to Case ( and this has been really about 8 years ago when I lived in Pittsburgh where a lot of kids apply to Case, at least more than from here) who are getting financial aid AND merit awards not get their letters until later because Case does offset the financial aid by any merit awards that the kids get. Makes sense, doesn't it? This way they can integrate the awards and get the most out of their money.

Jamimom - I was under the impression that the scholarships would be awarded in March/April when the financial aid letters came but the parent newsletter I received in the mail stated otherwise. I called Case's Fin Aid office yesterday and the guy there said that the awards come with the acceptance??

Kitman15 - I feel for you...this must be very frustrating, I know I hate waiting!

weenie - The same guy yesterday, stated that he was surprised my son got his password etc already and that the financial aid wouldn't be accessible until this weekend (that was his guess). We filed the CSS and FAFSA about 2 weeks ago, I can't believe they would have our need figured out already?

mominin, i got my scholarship notice with my acceptance letter yesterday. I also got a password however it does not work. you are right this is all confusing

congratulations psatmadness and soccerrulz. i also received a scholarship with my letter. it was the provost scholarship. i was ecstatic! :) hopefully, i can go there for sure now!

"In nearly all cases, students will be notified in the admission letter of any merit scholarships they're being offered."

Below that it says:

"January: ...Preliminary financial aid awards are available for students admitted under the Early Action Program and who have submitted Case's online financial aid application."

"March-April: Financial aid awards are mailed on a continuous basis upon the applicant's admission to Case and receipt of the complete FAFSA form...."

Congrats to everyone that received scholarships!

We are still waiting - had to resubmit all of the HS transcript materials last week - it was sent in October, and appears to have been buried under the EA deluge that came in. So - if you haven't heard yet - don't give up hope. I know for sure of at least two applications that are still under review from NE Ohio kids.

many (Trustee's, Provost's, President's) seem to be described as for Freshman. They do not mention if they are renewed for 4 years. Other scholarships (Music and Theater Arts and Academic Awards Program) are worded to clearly be "renewable for each of the four years of undergraduate study, or until the attainment of a Baccalaureate degree, whichever comes first".

Those of you who have received letters for Trustee's, Provost's, or President's, is the scholarship described as an offer for 4 years?

I was the one that received the Trustees scholarship. In the letter it says, "This award is renewable for up to four years at this initial level" (meaning of course that as tuition goes up it remains the same). It's for $24,000 per year though which is really nice. I've applied to other schools but am now seriously considering Case. I liked the campus when I visited.

For the Academic Awards scholarship I don't think you actually send in a separate application do you? I think the web information means you need to apply to the university by Feb 1 to be considered.

To anyone that has received an official acceptance letter: Did you all apply Early Decision? I received a parent newsletter yesterday but applied regular decision.

My son was early action and we did get a news letter. I think almost everyone that has posted here has been ea. Case is good about keeping in touch with the applicants, perhaps they are trying to do the same with the parents?
