Hello, I was deferred in the ED round...and despite being disappointed/terrified, I'm extremely grateful I wasn't straightup rejected, considering my stats were lower than many other deferees and even the rejected.

-Would it be better for me to send a passionate Why Columbia? essay or send another personal statement? I've seen mixed responses to this question of previous threads.

-Would Columbia tell me why I was deferred if I called and asked, or would that **** them off?

And lastly,
-Does anyone know that stat or what % of deferred students get in RD?

CONGRATULATIONS class of 2014, I'm so excited for all of you.
And if any deferees/rejected wanna mope around with me..PM!

My advice would be wait a month or so, then send a letter detailing your accomplishments (academic, extracurricular, and personal) since November, and repeating why you believe Columbia is a good fit for you and vice-versa. It probably wouldn’t upset the admissions committee if you called (as long as it’s not during Winter Break!) but they probably wouldn’t tell you why you were deferred.

-I think I’m going to do both. After rereading my personal statement I feel that the ending was weak due to my attempts to stay as close to 500 words as possible (ended up being 580) and I feel the same about my “Why Columbia?” short answer.
-I doubt they’d tell you, but I don’t think they’d get ****ed off by your asking them.
-I would like to know the percent deferred as well. It seems incredibly high if this forum or my high school is any indication. I just learned that there was another ED applicant from my school that was deferred, making the grand total four (including myself).

Edit: I also didn’t send an additional photo with my application, so I think I might do that now for the hell of it.
