When do you hear back from Columbia?

I applied to Columbia ED. If I don't get in ED, when will I know by(i.e. will there be enough time for me to fill out the supplements and recommendations between the ED decision and the RD deadline for other schools on 1/2?). I want to avoid filling out unnecessary paperwork if I get into Columbia ED.

you'll find out around december 15th, so its a pretty bad idea to leave all your RD applications incomplete. I know for a fact that any paperwork at my school needs to be handed in by early december since the offices are all closed over the holidays. Plus, do you really want to spend your holidays filling out applications and writing essays? No doubt a rejection letter would be disappointing.. there's no need to leave yourself a ton of work to do while you're upset. Do yourself a favor and start working on them soon.

how about internationals? Is it by mail?

last year was instant email + regular package, so presumably it's the same thing this year.

the email will tell us their decision (duh?)..

no....the email tells you that the packages were sent out which contain your decision. which is encrypted in a subliminal message in the package, because only the people who figure it out are smart enough for columbia. :-p

Last year the decision e-mails (and packages) were sent out on the 7th of december. Could that happen this year, too?

I thought last year emails informed about the committee's final decision, no ?

So we'll get an email on the 7th saying whether we got in or not? (Or this is what happened last year?) I'm hoping for something sooner than the 10th so I don't have to apply RD(i.e. fill out 30+ envelopes for transcripts/school reports/recommendations 10 schools).

I think I'll better file my regular before the decisions are out..

In 2005 my son applied ED and was deferred. He had not filled out any RD applications prior to that and spent almost every waking minute of his Christmas break madly filling out applications and writing essays. It was AWFUL! Please don't wait like he did. I know it's difficult to put your heart into an RD application when you are set on your ED choice, but allowing yourself so little time to complete the RD applications doesn't result in great/desirable applications. Happily, my son was admitted to Columbia RD, but he really sweat out those few months waiting.

My point -- get busy on those RD applications NOW!!!!!
