NPR Internships?

Does anyone here have any knowledge of NPR internships? Difficulty of getting one, which I assume varies depending on what one applies for?

Which did you apply for? And during what term?

I’m not the applicant, my S is. He applied for the coming summer term. I’m not sure which ones he chose.

I remember reading somewhere (maybe Princeton Review’s internship book) that NPR accepts 5-10% of applicants for the summer. Unfortunately I can’t seem to find that same link again. My feeling is that NPR internships are pretty competitive and as with most internships, it really isn’t something you can count on. Just apply and see what happens, and make sure to apply to lots of other internships too. I sent in an application on February 13 and still haven’t heard anything from them yet (I applied to a few: All Things Considered, Talk of the Nation, Morning Edition, a couple others). They don’t contact you if you haven’t been selected but they do at least tell you that if you haven’t received any response from them by April 1 then you’re not getting an offer. Hope this helps, good luck.

I, too, submitted any application and haven’t heard anything. Has anyone heard yes or no at this point?

Yeah, I haven’t heard anything back either…very discouraging. I emailed them in late February about my application status and they responded on March 9 saying this, “If you have not heard anything at all by April 8th, it is safe to assume you have not been selected.”
