NROTC at University of Chicago

Hi,
I've been accepted to the University of Chicago, and I've also received the NROTC scholarship. I am aware that Uchicago does not have an on campus NROTC unit, but I was wondering whether its possible to attend Northwestern's unit. Normally it is, but I recall reading somewhere that while Uchicago offered ROTC at an "off campus affiliate", the NROTC was "not offered." Any insight would be appreciated.
Thanks

Goonskill, I believe that NROTC scholarships can be used only at the colleges listed on the NROTC website. The site lists all of the and their affiliates. Northwestern and Loyola students participate in the Northwestern unit.

Goonskill, what unit is specified on your NROTC scholarship offer?

If UChicago is a cross town affiliate of Northwestern, I believe you can use the scholarship there. However, you need to make sure you are admitted to that school’s NROTC unit.

Unfortunately, UChicago is not a cross-town affiliate of Northwestern. I list of all of the units and their cross-town affiliates appears on the NROTC website.

So is this scholarship a complete waste if I go to Uchicago? Why do they accept ROTC and AFROTC but not Navy?

Unfortunately you won’t be able to use the NROTC scholarship at the University of Chicago.

Goonskill:

When you filled out your NROTC app you had to list 5 schools in order of preference that had NROTC units. If you received the scholarship it was to one of these 5 schools. You can’t use it at a school not listed and you can only use it at the school to which they awarded.

You could apply to have the scholarship transferred to another school, but it has to be approved by the Navy. It depends on if there is room in the unit at the school you want to move it to, and the cost. If your scholarship was for an in-state public and you want to move it to a higher cost oos public or a private it will get denied. The reverse possibly will be approved if there is room. But in no case is UChicago possible.

How did you think you could get the scholarship to a school you could not list on the app?
