Son last week received TWE Naval Academy. Same for NROTC scholarship, but was accepted to the top two universities on his scholarship list. Spoke with NROTC unit coordinator who looked into appealing scholarship decision. Scholarship office told him no appeal. Unit coordinator advised that son can join NROTC unit as a college programmer, but that would prevent son from applying directly for scholarship next year. Only option would be a leadership scholarship that the unit could seek. Alternatively, don't enroll in NROTC, but take the Naval Sciences courses and reapply for scholarship next year. We are a little confused as have seen a number of posts about others applying for and receiving 3.5, 3.0 and 2 yr. scholarships after starting out as a college programmer. Does son apply for one of these short term scholarships, or does the unit do so for him? Would they only be leadership scholarships? Any information appreciated. Don't want to bug unit coordinator.

i came in with a scholarship so i dont know the specifics…money is real tight, for example, anyone in our unit without a scholarship right now was just told they wont be picking one up for at least another year…apparently they wont start handing out scholarships until the class of 2015

wrt not wanting to bug the unit coordinator, i totally emphathize with your sentiment, but at the same time, that’s their job…plus it will really let them know your son/daughter really is big on attending…just make sure it’s your s/d doing the legwork, not you as it gives off the wrong the impression…bug them all i say!!
