NROTC Scholarship acceptance deadline

How much time do you have to accept a scholarship offer from NROTC (Marine Option)? Someone told me a month after you recieve your letter, but I have no clue. Thank you in advace for any help.

The letter will give you that information. It will also explain that it is in your best interest to accept the scholarship if offered one. My son got his scholarship before he had applied to any schools. He accepted the scholarship then applied to the schools that had NROTC units. He entered USNA last week, so his scholarship offer got automatically voided.

So does it depend on the Board your application went through? Because I don't want to be locked into a NROTC scholarship before I get scholarship decisions to schools that do not have NROTC units. I want to be able to make an informed decision, and I do not think I will have much choice if they give me till December to decide and I will not have acceptances to Ivy League schools until the spring. Do you know if they give you enough time to evaluate your options?

You can accept the scholarship and later decide to change your mind. If you later get a scholarship directly from a school and choose not to use the ROTC scholarship, you can cancel. Remember though, that there are other people out there wanting the ROTC scholarship opportunity. If you know for sure that you do not want the ROTC scholarship, let the Navy know ASAP so they can offer it to someone else.

Remember to put the schools you most want to attend as your top five choices on the ROTC application. (if they have NROTC). When you get the scholarship, you will be assigned to a unit. There is a way to request a change, but that gets harder as time moves forward and units get filled.
