Nscs

I don't know where to post/ask this so I'll post/ask it here since I'm an engineering major. I received a letter in the mail saying I was invited to join The National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and it says my college has a chapter on campus. Is this some stupid s***t like The National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS) or does it have come impact on the resume? They do ask for $75 (which is way more...I believe double what NSHSS asks for), but they seem to offer a lot of scholarships and events that my campus chapter holds. Did anyone receive this thing?

Yeah, I think I'm actually a member of that. They sent the info to my home address when I was an undergrad, where my dad opened it, saw that it looked overly-pompous, was very amused, and sent in a check. (Pretty sure that the fee used to be lower than $75...!)

I have a certificate somewhere, I think. Haven't heard from 'em since. It's not on my resume... The civil engineering honor society is.

Do you think it was worth it to join? How hard is it to win their scholarships? Did you get anything out of joining?

1) No.
2) Never actually tried because the whole thing smelled fishy.
3) That certificate I told you about. It's really a very nice certificate. I'm pretty sure I have it in a box somewhere.

NSCS = brilliant scam.

Btw, you're invited to join the International Brotherhood of Intellectual Magnificence - the IBIM, Iota Beta Iota Mu. This ultra-exclusive honor is made available to the most outstanding students, and will be recognized as such by your peers, employers, and love interests.

One time, lifetime membership fees of $75 USD apply. I take cash or money order. For the $75, you'll get a sticker, a tee shirt, and a certificate (retail: $3).

Again, congratulations on your nomination for this prestigious award based only on GPA which people can get without seeing that you're in the society in the first place! Do you feel smart yet?
