Does anyone know if there’s a way to check if your recommendations have been received? I’m not sure if mine are going through…

721217: NSLI-Y will send a confirmation message to the person who sent in your recommendation. You can ask for your teacher to forward that to you. That’s what I did and it was a huge relief.

yes, that is exactly what my teacher did she sent me a copy and paste thingy that said “you have submitted the nsli-y…”

Huzzah, just found out that I’m a semi-finalist!

I’m a semifinalist! SOOOO EXCITED!

Wow! You are so lucky to hear so soon. I wonder if you both are from the same region. My kids will be eager to know whether they are in the running, too. I’m guessing that you are not from the midwest.

Nope, I’m from the DC area. Congrats, ktlove12!

It looks like my interview will be on Saturday…talk about short notice.

I’m from the DC area and just got notified yesterday that I’m a semifinalist! And my interview is this saturday, Dec 18 also

Has anyone in the midwest gotten an email for an interview?

if you havent heard yet, dont worry! i didn’t hear last year until around feb
this is from an afs email:

“More than 2,000 students applied for the NSLI-Y scholarships this year. AFS will interview approximately 1,400 semi-finalists around the country.
We will conduct phone interviews between December 20 and February 7.”

Hey, SoreSubject! ( I feel special because I know your real identity…) Did you reapply for this year?

just found out im a semi-finalist today, DC area!

anyone from new york get it yet?!

Haha yea I re-applied it was the best time of my life. I thought about switching countries but stuck with Russia.

Congrats LaxBro where did you apply for

After my teacher confirmed he sent in my recommendation many times, today I found out that it was never actually submitted. I should have followed it better, oh well. I hope they don’t hold too much weight to it.

Congratulations to everyone who knows they are a semi-finalist already; I can’t wait to find out. I’m looking forwards to knowing how the interviews go.

Good luck to everyone who has interviews this weekend! Let us know how they go!

so where did you guys apply to!?

Russia, tajikistan, and turkey. If anyone has questions about Russia and NSLI-Y I’m here to help

can the participants from last year tell us when their programs started?

I’m re-applying for Turkey. My second and third choices are Tajikistan and Egypt. The AFS programs for Turkey, Egypt, Russia, and India all started on June 23 (3 day orientation). We actually left for our respective countries on June 25. The dates may be different this year.
