NSLI-Y Program.

sigh are you sure?

i would continue on if i were you - in case the dates change drastically from last yr or the thing that prevents you from participating until after july 1st changes.

Semi-finalist here as well from California. I’m anxious about the interview process, since I haven’t heard any notification yet. Can anyone share how to quell the nerves?

Interview scheduled on same day as SAT (Jan 22nd). Don’t know why they do that. Sounds like it will be a long, stressful day.

It seems like everyone who applied is a semifinalist…

I read they had about 2,000 applicants and are interviewing about 1,400 for about 600 spots.

I am also a semi-finalist!! I applied to Hindi, Arabic, and Mandarin; I want Hindi (and India) so badly. Hopefully I can express my absolute love for that country in my interview. <3

I still don’t have my interview date, though. Uhhh…

Did everyone here apply for the summer program, or is anyone a semester kid? Sorry I haven’t looked through all the posts but I applied for a semester - arabic. Let me know if anyone did as well:)

most who apply are granted semi-finalist status, because they only check to make sure everything is completed and you fit the qualifications. i do know a large number of would be returnees who were denied.

@emorylegacy - don’t have mine either!

@non artic - a large number of NSLI-Y hopefuls are on connect.state.gov in the NSLI-Y group.

I know of 2 people who applied who were very well-qualified and got all of their application materials in on time, but did not make it as semi-finalists. So, making it to semi-finalist must be more than just being “qualified”.

Oh no, the only choice I put was Chinese Summer. -_-
But I’m a senior so I’m only eligible for the summer programs, and I only found out about it like a week before! Do you think if I explained in my interview why I only chose the Chinese Summer it would be okay

those of you girls who have already had the interview or better yet, who did it last year, what did you wear?

i’m just not sure what level of professional/fancy is right…

Has anyone in VA been contacted about when their interview is? I still haven’t gotten the second email yet

does anyone else in new york have a interview jan. 29?

wait, do you guys know if they send a second e-mail to confirm with you?

Yes I do! This is so exciting, I wonder if I’ll se you there! Im going in around noon for my interview, what about you?

my interview time is i think 4ish? which countries did you choose?

supergrover - it depends where you live, i havent heard about mine yet - i’m guessing it will be another phone interview

GAH I still haven’t gotten mine either.

I am a semi-finalist! yay! I am so glad I found this site! I am from Utah. Is there anyone on here that is from Utah? I still haven’t been scheduled for an interview. Is that bad? I am starting to get nervous. I applied for China (full year), China (any program) and Russia (any program). Any tips?
