Hello! I recently became an NSLI-Y semi-finalist for an academic year to learn Chinese or Hindi, and I wonder if anyone out there has any tips for the interview process? I’ve definitely been looking all over the Internet and would like to add to the list of skills and techniques I’ve found. Any suggestions?
Be yourself.
Show passion in the language.
Show passion in the culture(s) of the country/countries.
Think about this - why should the U.S. State Department invest taxpayer money so that YOU can go study Chinese or Hindi for a year?
Thanks!
Hi @Nopalito I just stumbled upon this thread and if you’re looking for more applicants and alum to chat with come pop on the NSLI-Y 2016-2017 thread it’s a little dead right now considering all the nerves regarding upcoming interviews (yikes mine is on the first of January >…<) but I’m sure it’ll liven up after a few people have theirs. Hope to see you there !
