I'm somewhat dissappointed that Northwestern will only accept students in the School of Continuing Studies program. That means students can only take SCS classes mostly at night or other scheduled rooms filled with mostly working adults.

Sounds like they can also enroll in undergrad. courses-though they say that's based upon availability. I hope that whoever is in need will be allowed into the classes they need. And if they need more dorm rooms-couldn't we offer a 3rd person to move into a double? I'll use a sleeping bag.....

This disaster is overwhelming....where was our government? Why, at the very least, wasn't food, water, and clothing being dropped-especially at the Convention Center. I am so livid.

Its a really easy situation to point fingers...you have to realize the magnitude of the destruction and the scope of the destruction. New Orleans wasn't the only place to be hit, in fact, it was the failure of the levees that caused the majority of the problems, not the hurricane directly . Furthermore, the governement could have been there the next day and it wouldnt have changed everything...there would still be hundred of thousands of people stranded without drinking water and homes. Anyways, i recognize the lack of immediate attention, no denying...but I just think it is one of those things that you cant blame anyone for.

As for NU, im glad to hear they are offering the oppourtunity...but i agree, it would be nice if they allowed entrance into another program. Its not like all of the students would be rushing straigh to NU, so they wouldn't have to provide for many students, just a handful.

"Interested undergraduate students should apply through Northwestern's School of Continuing Studies. The application deadline for those students will be extended to September 15. All courses in which space is available offered through the School of Continuing Studies will be open to these students. In addition, where capacity is available, the visiting students may enroll in undergraduate courses in other Northwestern schools."

To me, that sounds like hurricane-affected students can take any class in the University that has space available. No school restrictions at all.

I am in contact with a Tulane friend who is applying to NU through this process. Yes there is an application process...I assume to make sure they can cut it academically.

As far as the government incompetence in the hurricane response, I blame federalism.

Actually, the School of Continuing Studies has a pretty comprehensive course list. See for yourself:

http://www.scs.northwestern.edu/courses/

Many of the same professors who teach WCAS courses teach in SCS as well. There are two major differences: The SCS courses are all at night, and they are spread between the two campuses.

But what if Tulane students want to take courses during the day?

If those day courses are open, they can register for them.

Actually, the Tulane students are in the same boat as incoming freshmen in terms of course registration. I assume they would register alongside the freshmen.
