NU/BC/Rice/Georgetown?

Trying to decide between these 4 schools. Planning to go pre-med. Location not an issue and costs about the same.
Any advice?

You should go to Northwestern, Obviously!!!

Ok, seriously – Academically, NU is probably the best, but Georgetown and Rice are close, BC is an excellent school, but probably another step behind.

People go pre-med and get int good medical schools from all 4.

They’re all very different schools. What are you looking for in a school? As zephyr said, NU is the best academically, but there’s a lot more to choosing than just that.

I’d say NU or Georgetown. NU is better academically and still has good sports. Georgetown is only slightly behind academically, but ahead when it comes to sports (at least basketball). As for the campus, Georgetown is more of a city-school, although it still has somewhat of a campus. Northwestern is more of a suburban school with a nice, big campus, but the city is pretty close as well.

Honestly, just based on the balance of academics, sports, and the traditional college experience I’d narrow it down between NU and Georgetown. Both schools are pretty balanced, and the differences aren’t very extreme. As for the student body, I can’t say much since I don’t know much about Georgetown. I’d narrow it down to Georgetown and Northwestern, visit both, and just see where you fit in more.

I would choose BC because of its location (and high quality academics) Socially, it is probably the best but if you are Pre-Med, you may be studying too much anyway…lol.

Yeah visit Northwestern and Georgetown and see which you like. Georgetown has a very preppy vibe, which some love. Northwestern is more casual sophisticated in style. As far as pre-med courses, I have to warn you that NU’s pre-med curriculum is especially difficult, so take it at your own risk.

Also, Northwestern has a Feinberg early admission program for high-achieving NU pre-med undergraduates that waives the MCAT requirement. Check this out:
Northwestern Undergraduate Premedical Scholars Program (NUPSP)
[Undergraduate Premedical Scholars Program (NUPSP) : Office of Admissions: Feinberg School of Medicine: Northwestern University](http://www.feinberg.northwestern.edu/admissions/nupsp/index.html)

I would say that Georgetown, Northwestern and Rice are all comparable academically. As far as pre-med though, Rice may be a little better as it is known for having extremely high medical school acceptance rates (over 90%) along with being located next to the worlds largest medical center (i.e. lots of internship and research opportunities). On the other hand, Georgetown would probably have greater name recognition if you are into that thing even though that matters little to medical schools.

Also, the schools are also very different socially. Georgetown and Northwestern have relatively strong athletics while Rice is lacking (although baseball is consistently top 10). Furthermore, Georgetown is probably preppier while Northwestern and Rice is more laid-back. Rice has the residential college system (look it up) which is unique and one of its stronger aspects, while the other two do not. On the other hand, all of them are located in urban cities, although Georgetown likely has the best location. And in the end, you’ll be happy at any of them (although Rice students are consistently rated as the happiest students and best quality of life by Princeton Review). In your situation it should probably come down to personal preference and not based on academics since GU, NU, RU are so similar academically.

NU actually does have a residential college system, albeit not on the same scale or of comparable nature to Rice’s

Pre med will work from all three (I’m excluding BC). Overall academic quality similar. Georgetown is significantly weaker than NU or Rice in the sciences, math, CS, engineering. Like the residential college system at Rice but really dislike Houston (sorry Texans, like Austin) and don’t care much for the immediate setting of the campus (Rice Village always felt like a big strip mall to me). On the other hand, really like Georgetown’s location but many find the campus claustrophic. NU is more a you take from it what you will, make of it what you wish kind of place, less limiting, but then less singularly focused, defined.

Compared to Evanston/Chicago, DC, and Boston, Rice is waayyyyyyyy cheaper in terms of cost of living. Houston 1BR/1BA in the Museum District (next to Rice’s campus) is something like $600/month including utilities–a good $450 less than what I’m paying for something similar in Evanston.

Academically (both no. of high ranking depts. and strength of student body), Rice is ahead of Georgetown (G’town tends to get love since it’s situated in the NE).

While BC is a fine school, it’s in the next grouping (if such things are impt. to you).
