NU Theater Department

Anyone out there with knowledge of the theater department?

Yep. What do you want to know?

Thanks.......my daughter is looking for a BA theater program, preferably in New England but she'd really love to be in Boston. She is interested in performing.

How many students are in the Performing major? How many productions are staged each year? Is it difficult for a freshman to get roles? Do they stage a freshman production? What type of co-op opportunities are there for Performing majors?

We are visiting on Monday. Can you recommend any part of campus we should pay close attention to? Is there one theater where most productions are staged? Is the program affiliated with any Actors Equity theaters?

I know it's a lot of questions.....thanks for answering as many as you can!

Northeastern's Theater Department has two officials productions a year, but there are several groups on campus that stage their own plays (like a musical club that did Footloose in the fall).

We don't have a "theater" that Northeastern performs in often. There is Blackman auditorium, but the majority of plays are in the 360 stage, which is in Ell Hall.

To honest, our theater program isn't very strong. If your daughter is serious about a performing major, I'd advise her to go elsewhere.

Thanks for the reply. I think you are right, it's a great school but not for her.

i agree with neuchimie
