I went to Columbia! It was so much fun! Look around on the Summer Programs topic; I've written a ton about it. It's really awesome though. You should totally look into it, and the classes are amazing!

There really was no bad. The ugly? Unwanted neighbors... There were rats outside (they didn't bite or anything but they were gross) and we had a mouse but then we cought and some dorm rooms has cockroaches or water bugs. They are dorms, so I guess it's nothing odd, but it was gross and ugly and scary. I hate rodents/bugs. It's not like the place was infested with them, but like, there were a few. And John Jay food is kind of gross. But Morningside Heights has awesome restaurants. It's mad expensive, but if you buy groceries and put them in your suite fridge, you should be able to save some money.

yeah yeah
i posted like 2 things on columbia
and so far uve been pretty helpful

Thanks man

I did the program at UChicago last summer and it was great!

Advantages: Great kids, great dorms, great campus, and the city of Chicago! Also, you have a lot of independence (the only rules enforced are curfew and academic integrity) and the classes are of a really high caliber.

But, you shouldn't do U of C's program unless you are really committed to learning whatever class subject you have signed up for. The classes meet for a lot of hours and they give a lot of homework. On the plus side, everyone is in it together and you get a great education. I highly recommend the language classes and I have also heard very good things about RIBS (bio research).

i do want to do the languages which is why i really want to go.

Most other top colleges dont offer language classes during their highschool summer programs

What is the link to the UChicago language classes? I seem to cant find them anywhere.

I went to the columbia summer program and attended the adv writing class. i found it really boring. we did the same thing everyday. food at john jay was also really terrible and the majority of the people there were extraordinarily preppy and rich potheads. I remember one of the korean girls there got deported because she stole a tube of lipstick from sephora. it was pretty bad. However, the program did allow tons of freedom and opportunities to see a myriad of shows.

I went to the Columbia summer program and also attended the adv. writing class. I really liked it. It all depends on what teachers you had (mine were amazing) and how enthusiastic you are for writing. I really enjoyed it and learned a lot. In writing, you do write every day, but every week is a different genre and you focus on a different aspect of writing every day. Sometimes, we even got to watch movies. It was fun.

John Jay really is bad, but it's not inedible. Also, there were a few kids who got kicked out, but if you have a summer program with 1200 kids and medium-little supervision, that's bound to happen. If you're responsible and choose a class that really interests you, then it's really amazing.

If I had time to, I'd go back in a heartbeat.

Uchicago=funtastic plus chicago is awesome by itself
great people
its easy to sneak out past curfew...so ive heard

don't know if your still looking for input, but i went to U of C's summer program and thought it was okay. at the time i didn't enjoy it, only because i didn't really like the people i was with, but now that i look back on it, it was really a good experience. i was in the insight program, and learned alot of cool stuff about the arts, plus the professor was really cool too. basically, the classroom experience was great, but the social one wasnt. but thats just me obviously. oh and i went in the summer of 2005.

i went to columbia the summer of 05 as well. i agree, the students were quite terrible but the teachers were really awesome.
