My D participated in NUin fall of 2012, and graduated during a wonderful, motivational ceremony this past week. I remember reading posts obsessively prior to her decision and then posting fairly regularly during admission cycles her first few years. As i attended her Damore McKim graduation ceremony I found myself reflecting and thought I would share some anecdotal data and thoughts:
- My D was honored as a business outstanding coop student at an honors breakfast prior to graduation. One of 16 chosen out of all DMK graduates! Even more impressive, I counted at least 4 other NUin participants so honored! (And that is self identified ) and that was business school alone-each school honored their own cohort.
- My D graduated in 7 semesters with 3 coops and a Dialogue in South Africa!
- Not a single coop interview considered it anything other than a semester abroad
- She was among many NEU graduates extended offer letters prior to leaving her final coop.
- She loved her time at Northeastern and tears up regularly at the thought that it is done.
So, partipating in NUin does not put you off track or “label” students in anyway. Go forward and seize all the opportunities that are there and of interest. Get involved! My D credits her sorority and clubs with assisting her integration back into campus and providing a wealth of information and informal advice on many of the opportunities she ultimately took advantage of.
