Number of accepted EA applicants

Has anyone seen data on the number of EA applicants and the number accepted EA?

The office will be releasing those numbers soon -- Rick, our Director, said he'd prefer it come out that way than through the committee members. So I'm not really allowed to say much more. I probably won't get killed for saying the numbers are better (for Caltech) than last year, meaning things are generally more competitive.

The full numbers will be out soon.

Thanks for the info. The numbers will be posted on the Caltech web site?

I think so. As soon as they're public, I'll make a post.

omg... this kid down my hall(hall mate) got into Caltech EA. Also another kid at school got in as well.

Hehe... I've seen so many "I (am/know) someone who has gotten into Caltech EA" posts. I don't think we admitted that many people :-P

Hehehe. Congrats to all of you.

I would guess that the number of EA admits at Caltech wouldn't exceed maybe 110-120 or so. I'm sure the yield is fairly decent (maybe losing some to places like MIT, which also runs the non-binding EA). Regardless, it's highly competitive no matter what way you look at it.

For everyone else's information, I was deferred till RD. Hopefully that works out, I'll be submitting some additional information. It's good news for me, as I suppose this means that I wasn't an outrightly bad candidate, and I still stand some semblance of a chance.

Congrats to all the EA admits!

-Jared

last year I heard there were around 40 EA acceptances. I know this due to my friend Tommy Morphet (born2run) got in last year and was very happy to be in the top 40ish. So if the numbers were good this year I would guess something around 70ish but I don't know.

Well, it's not a two-digit number : ) that would be a bit wild on the small side.

This is like the "Guess the number of gumballs in the bucket" game we all used to play! I'll take a guess, what's the harm? I guess 129.

I'll guess 143

umm i actually emailed the director of admissions and found out the number... for this year and last year among early action applicants.

tho im not sure if im allowed yet to disclose it? well, ben is pretty close to it. :P but yay for getting in! congrats to all.

I would say if the admissions director gave you the information there is no reason he wouldn't release it to anyone else who asked. You telling us would save us all an email.

Well, if Rick told applicants then I assume it's "public" -- we admitted 134, which is 24 less than we admitted last year. The applicant pool grew, too, but we'll wait a bit to say how much.

Looks like biomath2 won the guessing game.

Thanks for the info. When do you think the size of the applicant pool will be disclosed?

Whoa... that's a pretty tiny number. Heck, I thought MIT's 370 was small.

Well, there are roughly 900 undergrads at Caltech, compared with MIT's roughly 4.000. Those EA accept numbers are comparable for the size of the schools.

yea I think Director Rick will post em soon. :] The percentage wasn't as bad as early action MIT (i got deferred there, accepted here :P ). But fewer acceptances of course.

We should have a thread where accepted ppl introduce themselves? :]

I'm still waiting for my acceptance/deferral/rejection... is it normal for the mail to take this long?? I live on the East Coast, but people have been getting mail since the beginning of this week!
