how many people applied for Caltech this year? how many people do you predict Caltech will take this year?

is this really a hard question? it's almost the end of february and Caltech hasn't released the data yet?

Ben's the usually the first to get this data and he always posts it as soon as he is told he can make it public. I wouldn't be surprised if it hasn't been released yet. It felt like just a month or so ago that the early decision data was released. Plus, I seriously doubt they would release predictions about the number of acceptees before the number is final -- they'll just release the actual number when they have it. Just assume it will be about the same as last year.

Edit: I was looking for Ben's past posts about this and noticed that there's another thread already (#143529), started by you, about this. Please don't post the same thing multiple times -- it wastes the time of those of us trying to be helpful. Trust me, Ben will post the numbers when he can.

I wish I could just post the answer, but there are certain things we're asked to keep confidential for a time. I wouldn't be doing a very good job if I broke those rules. I'm pretty sure I can say that the numbers are up significantly, but the data won't really be meaningful until the process is over and we release everything together. Caltech isn't really so excited about playing the "numbers games" of shouting out every number as soon as possible -- especially when the number is good for us -- since that (in my purely personal opinion) sometimes breeds too much focus on statistics. (cf. the Ivies and the whole troll culture that grows up around that.)

sorry about my rush wanting to know the figures.....i will wait patiently
