Does anyone know how many people auditioned for the Vocal Performance/Music Theater program at NYU Steinhardt this year?? Versus how many got accepted?
They will generally divulge that number at the accepted students departmental meeting for students and /or parents.
I know this is too late for this year’s admission, but for future applicants. I asked this question directly and received the answer that they receive some 500 pre-screening applications. 80 of them receive a ‘call-back’ for an in-person audition. 30 or so admitted/enrolled.
So about a 6% acceptance rate. Sounds right. We were told similar figures for acceptance years ago, before there were pre-screens.
@uskoolfish Do you know if NYU decisions will come today or next Friday?
@deelight I think it will come next Friday. Younger D just got her financial aid package processed for grad school at Steinhardt. They said it usually takes 2 weeks after acceptance and it took 3. So, I don’t see financial aid as running ahead of schedule, and they won’t release results until financial aid is completed for the vast majority of students. Check the blog of the admissions head–he will give an update if it is going to be earlier. It should be on the admissions web site.
(But for us, it was worth the wait…D got almost a $17,000 scholarship and $3,000 in work study for her Masters in Art Education. So over 33% of tuition. Luckily as grad students, they apply independently for fin aid!)
@uskoolfish Congrats to your D on a great scholarship package! I checked the admissions blog and it looks like April 1. Thanks for the tip!!
@deelight This will be my 9th consecutive year as an NYU parent. And then my MT D is considering going back for grad school (MBA) at NYU after younger D completes her masters in art ed.
