Number of schools to apply to -- PhD

So how many schools is it typical to apply to for a PhD program in Computer Science?

Most people apply to 6-10 programs, but it will depend on your profile, your restrictions (geographical, subfield), your time, your finances, and how high you’re aiming.

I applied to six because I ran out of money, but I got into half of them. If you’re international, you may want to apply to more because of the increased competition.

The T4 are crapshoots, as are the ivies (they have small depts and lots of people apply for the name only). Take this into account when diversifying.
