Number of schools you are applying to?

"I don't even understand how 27 schools could seem appealing to one person."

-No two schools are the same. No 27 schools are the same. Some people think outside of the HYP "box". Other "boxheads" only apply to three reaches and are denied.

People like me need choices. I like California just as much as I like New York. I like Florida just as much as I like Texas. I am applying to schools all over and by August I will have made my mind up concerning the college I will attend. My parents and I are taking a country-round trip for me to visit the colleges I have been accepted to. I'm sorry that some of you do not understand, but that's why I'm doing it and you're not. I don't understand why you drive yourselves crazy with unrealistic prospects. Everyone cannot attend Harvard or Dartmouth or Yale. There are other great schools in this country and they should get the recognition they deserve.

Application fees-

If I have the money to pay them, then why does anyone else care about how much I'm spending? Many application fees are waived for online applicants anyway.

Some of you should really be more open-minded and not expect everyone to be exactly like you. If you go to college next fall expecting that, you will really be disappointed. Trust me, I've been going to summer camps since fourth grade and now I'm a dual-enrollment student at a local university.

P.S. if someone decided to apply to all the UC schools and all the Cal-State schools (a grand total of 2 apps), they would be applying to 23 schools. those plus four out-of-states...well, 27 is easy to get to here in california.

just a thought.

Well, while that's true for UC's, i think each cal-state requires filling in a separate app, but there's no essay so it's kind of like 1 big app if you did all of them

okay, so the application process would take longer, but the end result is the same: easily 23 colleges.

not that anyone in their right mind should apply to both UC Berkeley and Cal State-Dominguez Hills.

unless someone here did. in that case, i understand and DO NOT need any sort of longwinded explanation as to why.

it was just an example anyway.

to tell the truth i have no idea if u of i has rolling, but i know that priority app was due nov. 1 and i submitted mine (paper) oct 18th and got accepted nov. 2nd.

17 school since they are free with fee waives and all

3

Lawrence
Grinnell
Illinois Wesleyan

Grinnell is probably a reach.

If I don't get into any of those, I'll apply to Knox which is a pretty big safety.

11 ~ 1 super reach 2 reaches 4 targets 4 safeties

But some of these schools are target-reaches safety-target etc, it's hard to predict!

Good luck to everyone

9
3 safeties (emory, uga, ga tech)
6 reaches (georgetown, princeton, duke, penn, brown, dartmouth)

There's no way of knowing which reach will accept me and which won't. I don't see anything wrong with applying to 9 schools. . .27 seems like alot, but its his right to apply to that many schools. I like several schools in several locations, and they're all different. I also like options, in the case that I'm accepted to more than one reach.

That's my mentality for applying to the 9 schools, and I'm sure that's the same train of thought for applying to 27. Nothing about it seems unfair to me if the applicant does his part in completing the applications.

5 schools for me

Cornell ED: reach
Carnegie Mellon: slight reach
UVa In-state: Match
Virginia Tech: Safety
George Mason: Everything else fails, i hope this doesn't happen

btw my school processes 3 transcripts for us for free and the rest cost 5 dollars each

at our school, each transcript=$2. i know they're processing a lot of transcripts, but why do schools feel that its absolutely necessary to charge money for this kind of thing...we are the ones who are doing all the work...they're the ones who are getting paid...my school probably makes a fortune every fall...

Probably will end up being 10

3 Super Reaches (Columbia, Stanford, Brown)
2 Reaches (Northwestern, Georgetown EA)
2 "Matches" (Tufts, UVA)
3 Safeties (U. Wisc @ Madison, U. Michigan very early)

Oh and I was already accepted at U Vermont about a month ago (not attending, though)

This thread should be up there with the "how many reaches is too many" thread. Take a look a that one.

And take a look at a similar thread on the Parents Forum.. "How many colleges is your child applying to?"
