The NCLEX is a national exam - it is the same in every state.
Thanks.
For U Minnesota? It came in snail mail only- not online.
My daughter is a sophomore nursing major at UTampa. She loves it. The clinicals are close to campus (Tampa General is a 5 minute walk) and the NCLEX pass rate is 100% for 7 of the past 8 years. However, nursing at UTampa is not direct admit. You apply as a freshman as pre-nursing, then apply in fall of sophomore year to the BSN program. This year, 124 applied for 88 spots. GPA is most important, followed by TEAS score. It’s hard to get accepted with a cumulative GPA less than 3.5. Not impossible, but hard. Good luck with your decision!
So my d got into Tampa and USF direct admit nursing. They need to maintain a 3.6 gpa and earn all B’s or higher in the prerequisites or they get kicked out. Tampa is a bit more expensive but I like that it’s a small private school. I believe USF has clinicals on campus, at Tampa General and other locations. They do NOT need to take the TEAS exam. Which program is supposed to be better or are they comparable? We would save a lot of money at USF.
The top contenders for my student is CWRU, UPitt, and University of Iowa - all direct admit. Does anyone know if 4-year graduation is possible (I know that for University of Iowa direct admits will be able to graduate in 4 years). Also, can anyone comment on the rigor and the proximity of clinicals? I know that an advanced degree is in the future, so the ability to get a decent GPA is going to be a factor too. Thank you!
Case and Pitt are two of my daughter’s favorites as well. In visiting it appeared that everyone graduated in 4 years since very set curriculum in the direct admit programs. My daughter also plans on attending grad school and we were impressed with how both set you up for grad school, including the ability to take grad school classes as part of the 4th year curriculum. We are signed up for admitted students days for both and hope to go over specifics in the curriculums at that time since my daughter would also like to get a minor as well.
We also are waiting to hear from a few more programs, but Case and Pitt are the top contenders currently. Would love to hear any personal experience. Glad DD has options.
My daughter is also between Iowa and Pitt. We live in the midwest, so Iowa is very appealing. I have not seen a lot of info about Iowa’s direct admit on these message boards though.
My niece is a 2019 grad of Nursing at Case. Awesome program, great academic rigor. She worked at the Cleveland Clinic right after and through pandemic start, then has been doing travel nursing making a very good living! Case program is as good as they come.
My daughter got accepted to University of Tennessee Nursing. Still waiting to hear from Texas. She would love to meet others considering Tennessee Nursing. Her one reservation is not knowing anyone in Knoxville.
Many kids, maybe even most - don’t know a soul when they get to college.
With Facetime/WhatsApp - everyone will be close.
My daughter was accepted to UTK Nursing as well. She is still waiting for U Miami and not at all sure what she will accept until we do some additional visits. I would love for her to connect with some others as well
We are in the same boat. We live in Texas. University of Texas admissions decisions will come out this month. If my daughter decides to go to Tennessee and yours does as well I would love for them to connect at some point. Tennessee Nursing has an open house in Knoxville on Feb 24th. She may try to attend and go see the campus. Has never been to Knoxville.
Thank you for the info. I just signed up! If she doesn’t decide otherwise in the meantime, we will have to connect at the tour that day!!
My son is at FSU not for nursing. They have a lot of mixers the first week of classes. One is for OOS students only. They group kids by state. He made a few friends with kids that went to HS close to us. I imagine most schools do something similar.
Most schools also have FB pages for parents and kids. Great way to meet and ask questions. Good luck.
Congratulations on the acceptance to UTK! My daughter has turned down her spot and has committed to Clemson. While she loved both locations, Clemson ultimately was her number one. Best of luck to your daughter! I’m sure if she ends up at UTK, she will love it! We found the people to be very welcoming.
Thank you. Great to know.
My daughter is only a freshman Nursing student at Pitt but the 4 years is very doable. She absolutely loves it. If she stays for grad school, which is likely they even let you do a few graduate level courses Senior year in lieu of a few others so you can get started early! She had a 3.4 first semester which she was very pleased with for just beginning, and know it will only go up from there! If you want to see anything regarding curriculum or anything else please let me know!
The only potential downside we have found is that A LOT of kids move off campus sophomore year and its pretty pricey!
Hi,
Can you please help me on this question. My daughter got acceptance (BSN Nursing) from UPITT and waiting for fee and honor info.
Question:-
What is difference between nursing honors class and nursing regular classes.
