nursing premed?

Is it a good idea to major in nursing while doing pre-med? I know most people do bio or chem but i know that most people will do like chemical engineering to fall back on. i definitely don't want to be an engineer and having an option to be a nurse anesthetist if i do not get into med school is more appealing to me. but yes, is it an okay thing to do?

Easier to go pre-med--->nursing than the other way around.

1) There's a nursing shortage everywhere and med school adcoms are reluctant to exacerbate the problem by taking a qualified/trained nurse out of the work force.

2) Most nursing programs don't include enough chemistry - rarely do they require organic. They also skip out on the physics and depending on how courses are labeled may not properly identify biology courses so they count (ie, they may have upper level physiology courses which are certainly bio under a NURS heading - something medical schools are not going to track down and figure out when they're getting 20-50 applications for every spot in their class and need to only interview 8 per class spot).

3) While you can try to squeeze the extra requirements needed for medical school at other times, most individuals find the last several semesters of nursing school while doing clinicals completely incompatible with other classes.

4) Major in something that interests you. Students in my medical school class had major ranging from art history to sociology to psychology to business to political science to physics to math to econ to english to biomechanical engineering to your standard biology major. Pick something that's going to make you excited to go class, that you'll enjoy.
