Have you guys seen the NUS biz school ad? TOTALLY unbelievable. For those not in Singapore, let me give you a rough idea.

A caucasian girl was flipping through her letters. She goes through the letters stated Sloan, Wharton (like they are monthly bills) and finally get to Nus Business school. She looks at her Mom, exclaimed " MOM! I'm going to Singapore!" Then it show, NUS Business School. blah blah blah....

I can't believe the audacity and boldness of this move by NUS biz faculty. Any thoughts?

She got thin letters. (UChicago sends a very nice DHL box. :p)
They also forgot that UChicago only has a graduate business school, and no self-respecting MBA student - with the prerequisite 8 years of working experience - would go "MOOOOOMMM I'M GOING TO SINGAPORE!!"

That said, I suspect much of the backlash can be attributed to the asinine claim of cute guys in NUS - no offense of course. I can hardly imagine the majority of aspiring NUS students batting an eyelid at Sloan, Wharton or UChicago. After all, Wharton was an unknown quantity until the arrival of SMU.

The thing is even Singaporeans who prefer local universities think that NTU business is pretty much better. It is more established and stronger compared to NUS.

"After all, Wharton was an unknown quantity until the arrival of SMU."

Yeah I agree totally. Many Singaporeans are highly unaware of the elite universities overseas. However, they should have still tried to downplay the ad. It could have been something like she rejecting universities across the world or something like that. Afterall, there are many students here who actively seek an education in US.

I have no contention whatsoever over the fact that NUS is a world-class university but it is certainly no Wharton, Sloan or UChic.

But the thing is what is all the fuss about the cute boys. It is a joke, albeit not a good one.

The average Singaporean is pretty ignorant. I wished I got her Wharton and Sloan acceptance letter in exchange for my NUS law and NUS biz letters.

A friend of mine was holding on to NUS biz and SMU for a pretty long time. & this ads helped influence him to pick SMU. What an irony of having the advert in the first place.

Only that those letters are hardly acceptance letters... I thought they should at least know that acceptance letters for unis usually come in thick packages instead of those flimsy letters issued by our local unis, b4 they have the audacity to shoot such an advertisement...

Sigh. I'm from Singapore and when i saw that advertisement. I was at a loss for words. It's not that NUS business is bad, it's quite good actually, but it's definitely not Wharton, Sloan and HBS standard.

Is it only me or does she mention London Business School? I could not quite make what she was saying. I love the fact that she looks about 17 and got into Harvard Business School.
