Hi,
I am seeking acting training in NYC to further develop my craft.
I have been looking at either: The Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute, Stella Adler or Atlantic Theatre School. They are all connected to NYU which I’m guessing is a positive thing? However, I have recently heard negative things about the Strasberg Institute. Which of these schools would you recommend, are there other conservatories in New York that I am overlooking?
Alan
Out of curiosity, is there a reason you are looking for a narrowly-focused conservatory rather than a BFA program at a traditional university?
In addition to the ones you listed, there are also the American Academy for Dramatic Art (a quite prestigious that has trained dozens of very successful actors and other entertainment artists); the Circle in the Square Theater School; and the New York Conservatory for the Dramatic Arts. There are dozens of acting conservatories in New York, but those are some other big ones.
@A.R post on the Theatre/ Dama major forum. You are likely to get a greater number of responses.
There’s also HB Studio and the William Esper Studio.
William Espers!!
Thanks for you help everyone. I suppose the main reason I was looking at a conservatory program is time and money. I have already studied, and I didn’t want to spend another 3/ 4 years doing a BFA. Also I cant really afford it.
Neighborhood Playhouse ranks up there with the conservatories you’ve chosen.
You might want to check out Terry Knickerbocker Studio. He was with Esper for over 25 years and also teaches at NYU/Tisch. Great teacher, wonderful faculty.
